Hi Jodi,
He who believes in me, as the scripture says, from his innermost being will flow rivers of living water. But this he spoke of the Spirit whom hose who believed in him were to receive: for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
Jn 7.36f
The Spirit in Jesus, given at the Jordan, was designed to fill all of his body, the Church. And that began at Pentecost.

You dodge, always the same….and you call that being anointed with the Spirit.

So whenever scripture identifies Jesus as a man, like Acts 2 and 17 etc these verses need to be scrubbed out of your Bible and replaced by “God?”

August 26, 2023 at 1:58 am#944497JodiParticipantHi Nick,
Yes, at Pentecost people received gifts of the Spirit for service to God to continue His work which had been done by His Spirit in Jesus.
1 Corinthians 15:4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. 7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8 To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.
When Christ returns the dead will rise and those alive at his coming will all be baptized with the baptism Jesus received and they will likewise also all drink of the cup that Jesus drinks of.
Mark 10:39 And they said unto him, We can. And Jesus said unto them, Ye shall indeed drink of the cup that I drink of; and with the baptism that I am baptized withal shall ye be baptized: 40 But to sit on my right hand and on my left hand is not mine to give; but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared.
Isaiah 42:1 Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my Spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles. 2 He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street. 3 A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth. 4 He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law…6 I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;
Ephesians 5:9 For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness and truth.
Matthew 3:15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him. 16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: 17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
We read in Luke 4 that Jesus left the river Jordan having been filled with the Spirit and was then led by that Spirit into the wilderness where he was tested and did not fail. He came out of the wilderness and began to preach where he quoted Isaiah 61 concerning himself which Isaiah also spoke of in chapters 11 and 42, a man receiving God’s Spirit.
Romans 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God…16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. …29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified…32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
Jesus was predestined, Jesus was called to righteousness and Jesus was justified (Dikaioo) –to render righteous, be declared righteous and Jesus was glorified.
Ezekiel 36:27 And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. 28 And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.
Given scripture I would argue, that at the river Jordan Jesus receiving the Spirit was a calling to righteousness where in all ways he was then led by the Spirit, caused by the Spirit to walk in all of God’s ways and by such he became God’s only begotten Son. Jesus is the only mortal man to have received this calling, a glory that God had promised to give to no other. When Jesus rose from the dead he again received the Spirit according to a promise and he received a body that was no longer able to die anymore. We are of that same promise and why Jesus upon rising from the dead is now called a firstborn of many brethren.
1 John 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
John 1:33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Spirit. 34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
Once again, “for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness and truth”.
Concerning Jesus we are given in Luke 2:40, “And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him” but it wasn’t until he was around 30 years old was he called to righteousness to then be sent out to do God’s work. I find it fascinating that research shows that the human brain continues to mature well into it’s twenties and that fluid intelligence peaks around the age of 30 and new links in the frontal lobe are still forming at the age of 30. Research is now saying that the brain does not reach adulthood until the age of 30!
August 26, 2023 at 2:22 am#944498GeneBalthropParticipantBerean…….We can all say the same thing, “God glorify me with the Glory I had with you from the beginning of creation.” , we are all to be given this glory, need proof? Scripture says …Pas8:4-6……> “what is man , (mankind) , that you that you are mindful of him?, and the son of man, that you visit him? For you have made him (mankind) a little lower than the Angels, and have crowned (A PAST TENSE EXPRESSION) him with GLORY AND HONOR. You have made him (mankind) to have dominion over the works of your hands; you have put “ALL THINGS”, HIS (MANKIND’S) FEET”.
This holds true with Jesus and us also. That was the Glory afforded Jesus and us, before us and Jesus, ever existed.
Your false teachings separate Jesus from the rest of his brothers and sisters, and is the teachings of the Devil and his ministers , who never cease to try to make Jesus appear different then the rest of humanity. I realize you don’t understand and realize what you’re doing, but none the less that is exactly what you are doing Berean.
peace and love to you and yours Berean……….gene
August 26, 2023 at 2:34 am#944499JodiParticipantHi Nick,
Let me expand a bit on my position,
I gave 1 Corinthians 12 and it goes on to say in verse 13, “For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.”
Indeed people were called by God receiving gifts of the Spirit at Pentecost, being baptized into one Spirit, drinking of the cup of the Spirit. The literal body of Christ was one man who received gifts of the Spirit to do God’s work. When many each received a gift to do God’s work, together they became symbolic to that of the body of Christ.
These by their faith are counted as righteous by God and thus are able to receive the promised inheritance and become a joint heir with Jesus Christ. That inheritance is the promise to receive God’s Spirit to the cause that we too will walk in all of God’s ways as Jesus, being baptized with the One Spirit he was baptized with, drinking of the cup of the One Spirit he drinks of.
Ephesians 1:11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: 12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. 13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
Galatians 5:4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace. 5 For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.
Hebrews 11:39 And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: 40 God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.

I don’t believe a word you tell me that is a big lie. At least make the effort to give valid biblical support to your theory.
August 26, 2023 at 5:27 am#944501JodiParticipantHi Berean,
Gene is exactly right and the passages I was just reviewing expand on what he said.
Romans 8:29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.
Ephesians 1:11 In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, 12 in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory.
predestined-Proorizo
to predetermine, decide beforehand
in the NT of God decreeing from eternity
to foreordain, appoint beforehandWe too are to be given glory that had been with God for us before the world even began.
Now of course Jesus most certainly has his own special glory, he for one is God’s firstborn of many who will rule over earth as a king of kings and a lord of lords, but we do in fact share a same glory from God with him, we are joint heirs with him. Like him we are given the glory of the Spirit dwelling in us to the cause of righteousness, whereby that righteousness we will be made to no longer die anymore having eternal life.
Let’s look at John 17
1 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: 2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. 3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. 4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. 5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
Jesus of Nazareth, the man approved of by God was by God’s foreknowledge taken to the cross, where God also foreknew he would be resurrected and people would see the glory of a resurrected man. This is biblical fact Berean. There was glory unto this Son of Man that had been with God before the world was and Jesus expressing his faith asked God for this glory.
We read of another glory in John 17 that the man Jesus has, he is given the power overall flesh that he should give eternal life. He has that power because he is the promised offspring of Jesse who would be made into a righteous judge through God’s Spirit dwelling in him, the Spirit he received as a promise when he was raised from the dead. We are told in Acts 17, “31 For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.”
Berean, the day was set even before the world began and a man was appointed for that day.
“and Jesus Christ whom though has sent”
Jesus Christ is he who was sent to do God’s work, not God’s Son was sent to become Jesus Christ to do God’s work.
Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
John 3:34 For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.
Berean, the sending above is Jesus of Nazareth, SENT out into the world upon having been anointed of the Spirit to do God’s work.
John 17 also speaks of our anointed Jesus of Nazareth being sent to do God’s work, not some God being sent down from earth, losing his glory in the process to do God’s work.
Jesus having been anointed of the Spirit and sent out to do God’s work, is itself a glory that Jesus received, which he had been predestined from eternity to do. When God’s word of the prophet Isaiah had been made true in the flesh of Jesus ,where he went about doing God’s work in God’s name, the people beheld his glory and his fame began to spread.
I know we’ve been through this all before!

Jesus was God in the biginning, he was with the Father.
.All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
[17] And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.Amen!
This the eternal bible Truth

August 26, 2023 at 7:59 am#944505NickParticipantJesus was God? So he isn’t? True.
If you had the Spirit you would understand that men are never God.
“God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself.”
“God is at work in you to will and to do.”
