However it is, Jesus is the messiah, was the messiah, and was born the messiah. John saw the sign and knew Jesus was the messiah, the chosen one of God. Jesus was not chosen at the Jordan and John knew he was not worthy to baptise Jesus before seeing the sign.

Just a joke but it is true.
Just saying that a simple yes and no to a question can make one look bad, so they avoid that and give lengthy reply instead because they can hide behind the details and also look a little more intelligent. But that tactic is dishonest. I am sure you agree anyway. Just making the point though.
