Hello.
While you can already add images using the Add Media button to add in an image that already exists in the Media Library, I have now an easier way for you to upload a new image.
To upload a new image to a forum topic or reply, click the new image button in the editor toolbar. It is the last button on the top row of buttons:

Jodi, there are 2 modes in the editor, Visual and Text.
Visual gives you more idea of how the post will look.
