    T,

Scripture literally states Jesus' soul descended to Hades.  Hades is translated from the Hebrew word Sheol.

Rachel named her child as he soul departed her body and she died, Genesis 35:18.

Jesus was resurrected so the opposite happened and his soul returned to his body.

This does not say what the soul is but it is clear that it includes consciousness from Genesis 35:18.

The ancient torrent, the torrent Kishon.
O my soul, march on with strength.

1SA 1:15 But Hannah replied, “No, my lord, I am a woman oppressed in spirit; I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I have poured out my soul before the LORD.
1SA 1:26 She said, “Oh, my lord! As your soul lives, my lord, I am the woman who stood here beside you, praying to the LORD.

1SA 23:20 “Now then, O king, come down according to all the desire of your soul to do so; and our part shall be to surrender him into the king’s hand.”
1SA 25:26 “Now therefore, my lord, as the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, since the LORD has restrained you from shedding blood, and from avenging yourself by your own hand, now then let your enemies and those who seek evil against my lord, be as Nabal.

2SA 5:8 David said on that day, “Whoever would strike the Jebusites, let him reach the lame and the blind, who are hated by David’s soul, through the water tunnel.” Therefore they say, “The blind or the lame shall not come into the house.”

2SA 14:19 So the king said, “Is the hand of Joab with you in all this?” And the woman

2KI 4:27 When she came to the man of God to the hill, she caught hold of his feet. And Gehazi came near to push her away; but the man of God said, “Let her alone, for her soul is troubled within her; and the LORD has hidden it from me and has not told me.”

And all the people entered into the covenant.

2KI 23:25 Before him there was no king like him who turned to the LORD with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; nor did any like him arise after him.

Mike…….Yes they were able to enter the kingdom of God while still in the flesh. You simply do not believe what Jesus said, THE KINGDOM of GOD , comes “NOT with “OBSERVATION” It is “WITHIN YOU”, . Why would Jesus even say that if it weren't true ?

    Peace and love ………….gene

    From NETNotes:

[the kingdom of God is in your midst] is a far better translation than “in you.”

Jesus would never tell the hostile Pharisees that the kingdom was inside them.

The reference is to Jesus present in their midst. He brings the kingdom.

Another possible translation would be “in your grasp.” For further discussion and options, see D. L. Bock, Luke (BECNT), 2:1414-19.

I don't know the exact meaning of that statement, Gene.  Jesus starts by telling them the kingdom will not come with observable signs.  But later, he tells the disciples about all kinds of signs in the heavens and on earth that will foreshadow the coming of the kingdom.

I'm sure the statement you quoted doesn't mean the kingdom of God is literally inside any of those Pharisees.  And even if it DID mean such a thing, a flesh and blood person would still not be able to enter it – unless a human being can walk around inside their own bodies.

I don't know the answer right now.  But I know that statement doesn't contradict Paul's teaching that we HAVE borne the flesh body of “those of earth”, and we WILL bear the spiritual body of “those of heaven”.

For now, I will stick with my current understanding of flesh bodies being transformed into spirit bodies in order to enter heaven.

No “maybe”, “could be” , “might mean” , “can be taken” or “possibly could mean” about it, THE KINGDOM OF GOD COMES” WITHOUT .”OBERSAVATION”  it is “WITHIN you” , and he wasn't talking about the Pharisees   either,  because they were not of the kingdom of God , because the Kingdom off God was not in them at all. Jesus was referencing that the Kingdom of God comes to be in a person , it has to do with to effectual working of the Spirit of GOD, being “IN” a person, in their heart and mind, it is SPIRITUAL implanted into a person by GOD. God rules from within, our minds and hearts.

Gene, do YOU have prostitutes and tax collectors INSIDE OF YOU?

    Mark 9:1

Will they be able to SEE the kingdom of God as it arrives INSIDE OF THEM?

    hi MB,
The kingdom within begins when Jesus is allowed to enter men and allowed to rule there.

    rev3
20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

how is someone sits “in” a throne rather than ON it  ???

do you know the type of throne God sits ???

I will grant the one 1 who conquers 2 permission 3 to sit with me on my throne, just as I too conquered 4 and sat down with my Father on his throne.

Conquerors will sit alongside me at the head table, just as I, having conquered, took the place of honor at the side of my Father. That's my gift to the conquerors!

    T,

I can see Genes' argument as in every other case inheritance of the kingdom of God is spoken of it is the fruit of the spirit one lives by that is the context.

In addition 1 Corinthians 15:50 address the physical side with the words “nor does corruption inherit incorruptibility”.

So it seems Gene is saying the first part is about the spiritual side of man and the second part is about the physical side.  I have no disagreement with that even though I favor a different interpretation.

    k

WHAT SCRIPTURES SAYS IS THIS ;THAT UNLESS WE BECOME SPIRITUALLY INCLINE AND FULL OF TRUTH IN GOD'S WAY WE WILL NOT ENTER THIS IS FOR SOME ONLY ,INTO THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN ,AND THAT WE CANNOT ENTER THAT KINGDOM UNLESS WE ARE CHANGED INTO WHAT IT TAKES TO GO THERE ,

BUT THOSE ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS

    T,

Yes the spiritual and the physical are two different things but humans are composed of both. Gene seems to believe that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of heaven because the kingdom of heave is not a physical kingdom and flesh and blood is physical. That would be support by one interpretation of Jesus' words that his kingdom is not of this world.

The second part of the passage, and seeming the least important according to Gene's interpretation, is the physical body of a human. All Paul says about it is that “the perishable inherit the imperishable.”
