Does 1 John 5:20 call Jesus the true God?

    read in 1 john 5.20 that john says that christ is not the true GOD!

    Your lack of knowledge is self evident in the asking of the question since Christ is translated as Anointed. David was a Christ as were other kings and priests. God is not anointed as there is no one to anoint him as he is the one true God. So the basic question is absurd.

    The lesson of 1 John 5:20 is that a believer is in Jesus through the Saintly Spirit and in Yahweh by that same Spirit. It is only through the spirit of Jesus, whom was tempted as is common to man but without sin, that Yahweh can be in anyone. That is why Jesus is the way.

    Have you not heard these things before.

    those who believe that john says in 1 john 5.20 that christ is not the true God, you may start proving your false doctrine.

    the bible says, john believes that Christ is the True GOD according to 1 john 5.20

    the father is called the true GOD
    the son is also called the true GOD

    Hi jammin,
    I do believe that the fullness of the true God that offers eternal life does not exist apart from the Son. The true God that offers eternal life is not separate from the Son but the Son is very much a part of this true God.

    Kerwin, good post. The meaning of the word “Christ” is something I've tried many times to get jammin to understand.

    jammin, if Jesus is the Christ OF God, then he cannot BE the God he is the anointed one (Christ) OF.

    How do people like you get around such basic understandings? How do you allow your brains to become convinced of the absurd? ???

    The One called “true God” in 1 John 5:20 is the One who has a Son named Jesus. We are in the true God……………AND……….in His Son.

    that we may know HIM that is true, and we are in HIM that is true, even in HIS SON Jesus Christ.
    This is the true God , and eternal life.

    English sentence structure may yet be difficult for you.
    I have highlighted and colorized this verse for YOU, that way
    YOU can see who the pronouns “HIM” and “HIS” are refering to.

    The “Subject” of verse 20 (God) goes back to verse 18,
    so YOU can see the pronouns are about HIM (YHVH).

    that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

    The Christ is the primary anointed of God and not God. That is what the words “The Christ” means just like the Sun is the primary sun. Why engage in a foolish debate as to whether or not Christ is the one true God?

    the verse does not say that Christ is not the true GOD. john says that Christ is the true GOD.

    the father is the true GOD
    the son is also called the true GOD
