Did Jesus Christ exist before his birth on Earth?

Baby Jesus

It seems that most who call themselves Christian belong to one of two camps. Jesus is either God or a mere created man. This debate has been raging since the days of Athanasius of Alexandria and Arius.

What the does the Bible say? Well it is quite clear on who Jesus is and his origin. Let’s take a look at what is written.

Scripture says the Word became flesh and dwelt among us and when Jesus returns, his name is called ‘The Word of God’.  (John 1 & Revelation 19:13)

It says that God created all things through THE WORD and nothing was created without him. (John 1:3)

It says that the universe was created through THE SON and he is before all things. (Colossians 1:15-17)

It says that all things were created through JESUS CHRIST. (Hebrews 2:9)

This is what the Bible says about Jesus Christ, the son of the living God, the one named: ‘The Word of God’ who was with God in the beginning.

He emptied himself, took upon himself our nature, was obedient to his God and our God, died for our sins as it is written, and is now in the glory he had with the Father before the cosmos.

Jesus is not God in the flesh, rather the Word who became flesh and dwelt among us. He was with God in the beginning. He was the first to be with God.

    Hi,

The Word is the Spirit of Christ.

The Word was made flesh when Jesus of Nazareth was anointed at the Jordan.

Thence he was used as a spokesperson and instrument for God’s purposes.

    ◄ Luke 1:35 ►
The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.

    ◄ 1 Corinthians 15:47 ►
The first man was of the dust of the earth; the second man is of heaven.

Amen. But not all will believe the second man who is of heaven. They want to believe a man like us. A man from earth.

Yes it is. And Jesus was born holy, unlike you and I. He is from Heaven.

    Hi t8,

Are you saying he was not a son of man?

    Jb 25

Are you saying he was not an  overcomer?

    Rev 3

Are you saying he was not tempted?

    Heb

Or is it traditional catholic teaching you offer?

No Nick, this is your imagination.

He was born holy, so he was able to resist and not be overcome. He was tempted and it wouldn’t be called temptation if he could not be tempted.

He was for example seriously tempted to have the cross mission removed, but being obedient, he chose the Father’s will over his in his hour of weakness.

T8….Jesus was tempted after he was anointed with the spirit of God, and he was able to overcome SATAN through that spirit given him at the Jordan river. Remember what Jesus said about himself, ‘THE SON OF “MAN” CAN DO “NOTHING” OF HIMSELF, THE FATHER IN HIM DOTH THE WORKS.” Jesus know he had the spirit of God (the word, or logos) “IN” him. But none of that made Jesus that word or logos that was “IN” HIM.

Why can’t you understand that, you seem to praise Jesus to the exclusion of GOD THE FATHER AS TRINITARIANS DO. JESUS WAS TOTALLY dependent on the FATHER, or haven’t you read this, “THE WORDS OR LOGOS I AM TELLING YOU, ARE “NOT” MINE, BUT THE WORDS OF HIM WHO SENT ME. Now if the words or logos he was telling us were not his, then why call him “the word” himself, and not relize it was GOD THE FATHER “SPEAKING” THROUGH HIM. Why do you rob God the Father, by saying GOD’S words are not GOD’S but jesus’, that is something Jesus never did.

You seem to be caught somewhere between a trinitarian and a non trinitarian. JESUS never tried to make himself equal with the Father, he was totally dependent on the FATHER, FOR “EVERYTHING” HE HAD, INCLUDING THE WORDS AND LIFE ITSELF, just as we must also.

Peace and love to you and yours. …..gene

    Hi t8,

You ascribe to a man a nature, powers and abilities that are of God.

You fail to recognise God’s work in a human vessel.

You offer the folly of man’s tradition.

    Honour the special vessel.

    Give glory to God.

    John 6:63
Jesus said, “The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.”

    Hebrews 4:12-13
“For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.”

TO ALL ….God and his word are one and the same being mm God is spirit and can in dwell his whole creation.

There is only one God and one mediator between God and men the “MAN” Jesus Christ.  Just that simple nothing  difficult about it. Just believe what Jesus said and you shouldn’t have any trouble with understanding it. IMO

Peace and love to you all and yours……….gene

The Word of God means the spokesman of God. The King of ancient Abyssinia had a spokesman called Kal Hatze, meaning “The Word of the King”.

Hebrews 1:1-2 explains this very well… in the past God spoke to us THROUGH prophets – in more recent times He spoke to us THROUGH His Son.

The prophets God spoke through were not God Himself… neither is the Son God spoke through.

BTW, John 1:1 teaches that the word was with THE God in the beginning (Greek definite article), and was himself a god (no definite article). YHWH is the Most High God of gods – Jesus, Satan, Michael, Gabriel, Moloch, Dagon, etc are less high gods that YHWH is the God OF.

Mike……right on , Jesus is the word of God, that came to reality, as the flesh man Jesus. Jesus himself is not God’s word itself. He is the spokesman , who has delivered God the Fathers words to us, just as he clearly said he was.  Jesus is not equal to God , never was or ever will be. GOD and his word are one and the same .

Good to see you back descussing things that really count brother.

Peace and love to you and yours. ……….gene
