What is worship?
Scriptures and Jesus say to worship only God.
Walking and talking with the son and loving him is not necessary worship because we walk and talk with and love people here and it does not mean we are worshiping them, does it.
So then what exactly is worship, iyos?
John 4:23″But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.”

Worship is:
In his Hebrew-Chaldee lexicon, Gesenius says that the predominant Hebrew word for “worship” (shachah) means: “to bow oneself down, Isa. 51:23….to sink down, to be depressed….to prostrate oneself before any one out of honour….Those who used this mode of salutation fell on their knees and touched the ground with the forehead….” (Gesenius’ Hebrew and Chaldee Lexicon to the Old Testament Scriptures, pp. 813-814). In their Greek-English lexicon, Bauer, Arndt, Gingrich and Danker say that the predominant Greek word for “worship” (proskuneo), like the Hebrew, was “used to designate the custom of prostrating oneself before a person and kissing his feet, the hem of his garment, the ground, etc.; the Persians did this in the presence of their deified king, and the Greeks before a divinity … (fall down and) worship, do obeisance to, prostrate oneself before, do reverence to, welcome respectfully….” (A Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament and Other Early Christian Literature, pp. 716-717). Our English word “worship” is derived from “the Saxon/Old English word ‘weorthscipe’ or ‘weordhscipe’, which means ‘worthship’ or worthiness.
But there’s more on the page.

Prostrating may symbolize the act of worship but it is not worship. It is an act homage but in Scripture we are instructed only to give homage to God alone. That is in reference to two masters. You cannot serve the government and God both unless the government serves God. Any conflict between the two is always accomplished by serving God and in this way you are always serve God alone even if you are serving the government.
Colossians 2:18 use the actual Koine Greek word that parallels the English word worship. It is thréskeia and means “worship as expressed in ritual acts”. It is also translated religion.
I have heard of Catholics who basically make the saints idols by their actions. These Catholics claim they are not worshiping them but instead calling upon them to intercede with God. Jesus does not want you to make him an idol because in doing so you will loose both him and God.
April 25, 2015 at 8:09 am#795615GeneBalthropParticipantKerwin……. right, well said, if we worship Jesus we are making him an idol and commiting idolatry, And will lose both GOD THE FATHER AND JESUS, ON THIS WE AGREE.

We need to test our lives to make anything an idol. Miia states she talks to Jesus and if that is what she is doing she has committed no sin. If she is asking for anything then she needs to ask God in Jesus’ name as do each of us.

so what is worship?April 25, 2015 at 3:59 pm#795662MiiaParticipantthanks for the info Kerwin. I’m going to study more into what (exactly) worship is, and then get back to this 🙂
by the way, as I said, scripture says it’s ok to ask Jesus. you and Gene can have your opinion.
April 25, 2015 at 5:13 pm#795665MiiaParticipantactually come to think of it, I’m not going to study into this. I’m tired of study; theology, and the teachings of men.
worshipping the Father in spirit and truth should not be ritualistic, according to men, or according to study, but in spirit and truth.
April 26, 2015 at 9:27 am#795714GeneBalthropParticipantMiia……..I am not trying to descourage you, as long as the FATHER IN YOUR HEART HOLD THE HIGEST POSITION, AND you glorfy him for who and what he is, and you honor Jesus for who and what he is, you will be alright imo. WE NEED TO DO WHAT JESUS DID, AND GLORIFY THE FATHER AS HE DID. THE WORLD AS A WHOLE WORSHIPS JESUS AS a GOD, TO THE EXCLUSION OF THE FATHER, GO TO ALMOST ANY CHURCH AND YOU WILL HEAR ALL ABOUT JESUS OVER AND OVER, BUT HARDLY ANYTHING ABOUT EVER ABOUT THE FATHER, WHO IS THE “ONLY” TRUE GOD. April 26, 2015 at 10:36 am#795719bodhithartaParticipantIt is funny but those who have the “spirit of Christ” would pretty much only talk about God or “Father” if you prefer
Galatians 4:6
And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. When the mind of Christ is in you , you only want to Glorify (“The Father”) God
I believe Gene said something to the affect that spirit is intellect and that being said the intellect of Christ is 100% pure monotheism free from all polytheistic tendencies and because of this this Spirit of Christ never speaks of Christ as an object of worship or concentration it is this very Spirit that purifies the mind to focus on God Almighty:
Romans 12:2
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.If you worship Jesus you just may find out to late that you never attained the Mind of Christ to do the will of God
Matthew 7:21 King James Version (KJV)
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

What I wrote is about it. Worship is doing what Jesus Christ teaches us to do. There is not a lot rituals to it and even those serve a purpose beyond merely being a ritual. To learn how to worship as God wants us to worship then seek to righteous as God is righteous and seek his kingdom. It is theology because it is the study of God.

Hi Gene,
I used to think the same thing: everyone seemed to speak “Jesus” to the exclusion of God the Father, BUT at the same time I had a relationship with the son.
I joined this forum years ago but posted only in sceptics for a while, not because I was an unbeliever but because I found the discussions in believers silly(!) and got to know people in skeptics. I would rather help people.
Anyway, eventually I joined in with the believers conversations, and to make a long story short I eventually lost my relationship with the son. In my mind I had the Father but excluded the son. I believe it was partly to do with the opinions, study, discussions and debates which started to consume my mind.
One does not really know they ARE deceived, WHEN they are deceived. A while back, if someone told me I do NOT have Christ, I would be upset, how dare they judge me. But, they were telling the truth. What used to be no longer was. I thought God had abandoned me but I told hardly anyone. I could talk and talk and write and write, but said little about how I really felt.
Anyway, do you know how good it feels to be with the son of God again. It doesn’t mean I have “abandoned” the Father, but it is one step at a time and I have been taken back to step one where I was several years ago. First I need to reconnect with the son of God, and I know I will reconnect with the Father.
Jesus is not some “login password” to the Father. You need to KNOW the son before you can truly KNOW the Father.
“And this is eternal life; that they may KNOW you the only true God and Jesus Christ whom you have sent”.
As I have said: Knowing ABOUT Jesus is not necessarily knowing him. It is what is in your heart and you life that matters, and I am only saying all of this because I can see more now, and wish to share it with those who might be where I have been.
So, though I know what your are saying, there needs to be a balance.
(Hi Kerwin, I’ll get to you post later, ran out of time)

Hi Kerwin.
So, obedience is worship, or a part of worship?
Miia,
Seek God with your heart and the mind will do its job as well.
That’s good advice thanks.

I wouldn’t disagree with you.
April 28, 2015 at 1:09 am#795842GeneBalthropParticipantMiia….Did you ever think that the reason you had a closer relationship wih Jesus, was because you came to understand that people were speaking about JESUS, TO THE EXCLUSION OF GOD THE FATHER? MAYBE THAT IS WHY YOU CAME CLOSER TO JESUS CHRIST, BECAUSE YOU CAME CLOSER TO THE FATHER.

God causes the winds to blow and the rain to fall whenever they do but when Jesus asks God for these wind to blow and the rain to fall God will grant his petition. You see this when Jesus asked that the thousands be fed and in other of his miracles works.
One of the few rituals is to pray and our prayers are addressed to God. Jesus taught us to ask in the name of the Son.
April 28, 2015 at 5:26 am#795850bodhithartaParticipantHere is the thing: With worship like most things in religion people neglect to remember one thing, and that is prayers are answered simply if God wishes to grant the prayer, it is not unusual that a person often thinks their prayer was answer because of their religious disposition, prayers of all faithful people are answered in all religions because God functions according to His knowledge not according to ours.
I have had so many prayers answered that I can hardly imagine the number and even when I think my prayer is going unanswered God surprises me with something even better, sometimes it will be things I could not have imagined. Faith in what you ask is not limited to understanding your view on theology it is understanding your view on how you love and believe in God, as Jesus says:
Matthew 6:30
Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? So even having the very realization that God is the source of all our happenings we can have faith in the best of those happenings and even increase those outcomes we desire by participating in the desirable outcomes of others, hence the power of Charity and Kindness. Often at times a person has little faith to even give some small thing to a person fearing it would deplete them of their own resources, even if it is time or a kind word, but when you free up the transactional pathway things run smoothly, just like in the body, when you can create the right undisrupted nerve path and pain stops
