Hi MF,
I agree.
But we must resist the temptation to put God in a box.
Yes scripture does reveal some things about Him but let's not confine Him to our limited knowledge.
Yes the warnings are real and none should shed their awe of Him and presume on his mercy.
Men are harsher than the God of love and legalism is of men, not Him.September 30, 2008 at 8:10 am#109116malcolm ferrisParticipantAmen
GOD is not to be understood by scripture plus our mind.
HE is to be understood in the context of the entire WORD of GOD as HE has revealed it.
We are entitled to our opinions, we can respect one another's opinions, we may disagree with each other.
But as for the WORD of GOD it is absolute and we give deference to it over any of our own ideas.
As long as we remain open to HIS SPIRIT we will learn more, and what we learn will not contradict any truth we have
previously known, if indeed it was truth.

You say GOD is not to be understood by scripture plus our minds, to say (understood) is a process of the MIND. you cant separate the mind from understanding. The only thing is the SPIRIT lead mind understands the things of God, the CARNAL led Mind does not understand the things of GOD. Neither can it. imo

I would say that the heart has to believe it, as a man thinks in his heart so is he.
Our minds are the problem, only when we can cast down the conception of our carnal mind in favor for the mind of Christ
can we truly experience the over comer in ourselves.
I believe the old man was born with a carnal natural spirit and continues to exist in our flesh.
Whereas the new man is created from a new spirit in our heart (soul) by rebirth.
As the outer man remains connected to our flesh, so the inner man is connected to our soul.
The one is natural the other spiritual. The one produces a mortal life doomed to perish the other eternal life with GOD.
IMOSeptember 30, 2008 at 10:02 pm#109183GeneBalthropParticipantMalcolm….the heart guides the mind they are inseparable , “the heart is deceitful above all things who can know it, I the lord search the Heart and try the mind. So a man thinks so he is, an man thoughts are guided by his heart and his mind thinks in accordance with his heart. they are inter connected inseparable, thats why a New Heart is required in order for us to please GOD and GOD has to GIVE Us that new Heart, because we can not change our hearts we were born with, it is impossible.
WE must become a new creation in order to please the FATHER. Men want to believe they are the authors of their destinies and the captains of there own ships, but fail to realize that their destinies and there ship is in the Hand of Him who makes all thing including them and their salvation they are just clay in the hand of their maker. WE are CREATED UNTO GOOD WORKS we don't create ourselves right by our so-call free choices. IMO

Indeed WE are
Ephesians 2:10
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.WE being the saints of course.

1Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus:2Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

It is not me you should be anxious to find agreement with but Jesus Christ and the bible.October 1, 2008 at 2:51 am#109206GeneBalthropParticipantNick….let's don't get carried away with our self righteousness , I do agree with What God's Spirit shows me and it doesn't not disagree with Jesus or his true understood words. While i might disagree with your limited understanding, i certainly don't disagree with GOd's words that Jesus spoke to us.

You boast again of your superior understandings?
Is this a wise habit?October 1, 2008 at 4:21 pm#109297GeneBalthropParticipantNick….boasting has nothing to do with it , it's what God's word say that counts , because i said that i agreed with you about something is not boasting, i find nothing boastful about agreeing with you about anything at all, maybe you coming off your hight horse makes you feel like I am raising myself up, but i assure thats not the case. If I glory or boast it will be in my Heavenly FATHER , not man , like me or you.

You find alignment with carnal men like Socrates, Newton and others but deny the teachings of Jesus about many things such as Satan.
Who is your master?October 1, 2008 at 6:45 pm#109315NickHassanParticipantHi,
Mt10
28And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.February 4, 2009 at 6:43 pm#120284NickHassanParticipantHi samuel,
In another thread you said
“Okay, then; let’s see what the Scriptures tell us as to what the “soul” really is:Genesis 2:7 (Darby Translation)
“And Jehovah Elohim formed Man, dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and Man became a living soul.”1Thes5
23And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.Heb4
12For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. So looking again at gen2
“And Jehovah Elohim formed Man[BODY],
dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life;
and Man became a living[SPIRIT] soul [SOUL].”February 4, 2009 at 6:47 pm#120285NickHassanParticipantHi Samual,
You say
“According to this Scriptural account, it took “the dust of the ground” and the breath of life” before the Man “became a living soul.” Logically, then, if we remove the breath of life, we are left with the “dust of the ground.”Other Scriptures support this conclusion:
Psalm 146:3-4 (Darby Translation)
“Put not confidence in nobles, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation. His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his purposes perish.”He returns to the earth?
Surely HE does not just refer to the body?
The soul of a natural man finds it's home in hades which cannot hold the sons of the resurrection.Ecclesiastes 9:5 (Darby Translation)
“For the living know that they shall die; but the dead know not anything, neither have they any more a reward, for the memory of them is forgotten.”The philosopher's view is delightfully of earth
The reward we hope for is not the praise of menFebruary 4, 2009 at 6:50 pm#120286NickHassanParticipantHi,
This verse should not be ignored by those who do not discern the soul.Hi,
Mt10
28And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. After death the spirit of man returns to God [ecc12]and the body is consumed by earth.
Is nothing left?ps 49
7None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:8(For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:)
9That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption.
10For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.
11Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.
12Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.
13This their way is their folly: yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah.
14Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.
15But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah.
February 4, 2009 at 6:53 pm#120287NickHassanParticipantHi Samual,
The soul is not immortal as you say.
Mt 10.28 confirms it“We can easily refer to the doctrine of the immortal soul as a doctrine of demons, especially when we realize that the source of that concept (the first lie) was from first demon, who said to Eve:”
But the end of our faith is the salvation of our soul.
1 Peter 1:9
Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.February 5, 2009 at 7:17 am#120377chosenoneParticipantThus, to sum up, just as human existence is joined to the soil (for the human was formed of the soil before the spirit was imparted), and as spirit is the source of life, so the soul is the seat of sensation. And for human beings, sensation is impossible except where there is a material body vivified by a spirit. Sensation does not depend upon a distinct entity or organism apart from either body or spirit, but rather upon their union. This union and its resultant sensation is termed “soul” in the sacred Scriptures.
