Jammin,John 1:3 is not speaking of Jesus as Jesus did not become the word until the word was made flesh. It is instead speaking of the very word that comes out of the mouth of God. That word was made flesh when it was written on Jesus' heart and placed in his spirit so that he would become the Pioneer of those to come.

A thought for thought translation is more subject to bias than a word for word translation. It lacks creditability unless I believe the experts were carried along by the Spirit as they translated.
Matthew Henry's reasoning depends on either assumptions or arguments he made elsewhere. He is not here to cross examine and you seem to lack his understanding of the topic.

You choose not to understand these things but instead let others understand them for you.
