Nick,
You asked where it speaks of two spirits becoming one. See this verse, it is drawing a parallel of two becoming one.1 Cor 6:16-18
16 Or do you not know that the one who joins himself to a prostitute is one body with her? For He says, “THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH.” 17 But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him.
NASUI am afraid that I must get some sleep. I have a long day tomorrow. Nice chatting with you, Nick.

We share the Spirit of Christ with him and with God.
But our human spirit leaves at death [ecc12] and the abiding Spirit of God does not so they are not one.September 29, 2008 at 10:49 pm#108998LightenupParticipantHi Nick,
1 Cor 6:17 But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him.This is what Wycliffe says about this verse.
1 Cor 6:15-17
17. One spirit. One of the strongest expressions of unity and security in the Word of God. As one author has put it, “The sheep may wander from the shepherd, the branch may be cut off from the vine; the member may be severed from the body . . . but when two spirits blend in one, what shall part them?” (Arthur T. Pierson, Knowing the Scriptures, p. 146).

Indeed one by SHARING in the Spirit of Christ.
But our own spirit is not involved.September 29, 2008 at 10:57 pm#109002LightenupParticipantNick,
What shares in the spirit of Christ if not our own spirit then?September 29, 2008 at 11:25 pm#109003NickHassanParticipanthi LU,
God GAVE of His own Spirit to His Son who GAVE of that Spirit to us.
We received of a share in God's Holy Spirit.
Theirin is our unity. Our own spirit contributes nothing.

So what happened to the Son's original spirit?LU
September 30, 2008 at 3:01 am#109053NickHassanParticipantHi LU,
He was a man.Ecc12
7Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.Jn19
30Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.September 30, 2008 at 3:03 am#109055LightenupParticipantHi Nick,
Was He only a man?September 30, 2008 at 3:07 am#109058NickHassanParticipantHi LU,
Acts2
22Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:1 Timothy 2:5
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;September 30, 2008 at 3:10 am#109059LightenupParticipantNick,
Was the Son of God only a man and nothing else?September 30, 2008 at 3:14 am#109061NickHassanParticipantHi LU,
He has no inbuilt advantage over any other man who wants to follow him.
Made of our stock and personally aware of all we face he overcame by the Spirit of grace.
We too can seek to be blessed as he was and to fulfill our appointed role as a branch in his blessed vineSeptember 30, 2008 at 3:18 am#109063LightenupParticipantNick,
But He was the vine, we are the branches. Can we be blessed to be vines too someday with branches?September 30, 2008 at 3:23 am#109064NickHassanParticipantHi LU,
No.
Faith can become as a tree in which birds can roost and restSeptember 30, 2008 at 3:35 am#109068LightenupParticipantNick,
You said once that we can be just like Him. Why can't we be a vine?September 30, 2008 at 3:41 am#109070NickHassanParticipantHi LU,
Is not a branch exactly like the vine?September 30, 2008 at 3:48 am#109071LightenupParticipantNick,
No, it is not directly attached to roots, it has leaves and fruit coming off it a vine is directly attached to the roots, a vine has no fruit directly hanging off it. We can't be like Him if we can't be a vine.September 30, 2008 at 4:15 am#109073LightenupParticipantNick,
So you don't believe the Son of God pre-existed His conception within Mary? - AuthorPosts
