Hi Kerwin.
The word “No” means that something is not true.
What is not true? besides the N.I.V. of course?God bless

No, because it is untrue.May 11, 2012 at 5:54 am#297382NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
IF it is not should we try to JUSTIFY the actions of those who ADDED it?May 11, 2012 at 6:02 am#297383NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
There are depths of meaning in every verse of scripture that are destroyed by careless translation.
How many times have you looked at a verse for years and suddenly another deeper understanding becomes clear?May 11, 2012 at 6:20 am#297386Ed JParticipantQuote (Nick Hassan @ May 11 2012,17:02) Hi KW, There are depths of meaning in every verse of scripture that are destroyed by careless translation.

Hi Nick,Here's one such example:
(talk about some serious halitosis)2 Thessalonians 2:8
Contemporary English Version (CEV)“The Lord Jesus will kill him simply by breathing on him.”
God bless

Nick,The idea is in the manuscripts. The English “No” is not in the Ancient Greek or Hebrew manuscripts as they are not English. I have no idea why the translators chose to translate it as they chose. I do know there is no significant difference between the NIV and the KJV versiob of this passage. Better yet, I understand the lesson being taught.
The lesson is that you won't find your belief in heaven or across the sea because it is in your mouth and in your heart; if it is anywhere.

Ed J,The “no” just agrees with the prior statements that your belief is not in heaven or across the sea.
If some one tells you to go to heaven or across the sea to find belief do not go as that is not where belief is.
It does not appear to be literal; but it is still a correct translation.

Nick; There are as you state, depths of meaning in every verse of scripture. Many are lost in translation but God is a living God and leads us true despite the ignorance and corruption of translators.
May 11, 2012 at 7:28 am#297392Ed JParticipantHi Kerwin,
Why are you defending corruption?
The word “NO” is in there, just not in
the corruption presented in the N.I.V.!al: not (a subjective neg.)
Original Word: אַל
Part of Speech: adverb of negation
Transliteration: al
Phonetic Spelling: (al)
Short Definition: noGod bless

Some Bibles are different because of choice of manuscripts honestly translated.
But in the case of the NIV and others there is not attempt at faithfulness to the manuscripts.May 11, 2012 at 8:54 am#297412Ed JParticipantQuote (jammin @ May 11 2012,18:52) edj, keep dreaming LOL
