We are washed by the Holy Spirit through the SPIRITUAL BAPTISM Given us by GOD the FATHER, Jesus' shed blood brought us the forgiveness of our sins by way of his payment through the effectual working of GOD'S Spirit in him, That same Spirit is what changes our thinking and cleanses us by transforming of our minds and hearts. Nick why do you have such a hard understanding the salvation process?.

Now what did Jesus say the words were, they (ARE SPIRIT) the washing here is the washing by the Spirit. John said for I indeed do baptize with water, (BUT) Jesus would Baptize withe (SPIRIT) and (FIRE) . even John new there was a difference. Water is symbolically referencing SPIRIT used for cleansing a persons mind and heart.

If you believe water really cleanses you from sin then you not only don't understand Jesus but you despise his words, and are still Carnal minded. IMO
