Hi KW,
Did not the apostles take up the roles of Jesus in word and in power?
Is this not the fulfillment of the promise?
Was it not the Spirit’s work?
November 14, 2015 at 3:11 pm#804734NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
The Spirit of Christ[1peter 1] speaking through John the baptist promised in Mt 3 and Lk 3 that Jesus would baptise in the Holy Spirit.
In acts 2 the disciples were said to be FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT, just as it says about Jesus in Acts 4.
In any of the examples you show were he OT servants of God said to have been FILLED with the Spirit?
November 14, 2015 at 6:51 pm#804743kerwinParticipantNick,
Scripture does not literally say.
Instead it tells us they received the Holy Spirit in the sign of flames and manifested the gift of being understandable in many languages. Then Peter and the other apostles stood up and preached the gospel to the Jews and converts to Judaism that were present to hear them.
November 14, 2015 at 7:00 pm#804745NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
Peter raised the dead, read the hearts of evil doers and helped the sick.
Did you not notice him following in the ways of his anointed master?
November 14, 2015 at 7:16 pm#804747kerwinParticipantNick,
It may depend on the translation.
In the NET Moses laid hands on Joshua and he was filled with the Spirit of Wisdom. (Deuteronomy 34:9) There is also two mentions of which Bezalel son of Uri is the subject both times. (Exodus 31:1-3 and 35:30-35)
Both Elizabeth and Zechariah in the new testament but still under the old covenant. (Luke 1:41 & 67)
November 14, 2015 at 7:27 pm#804749NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
So baptism in the Spirit is a mystery to you?
You a not see the kingdom till you are born again.
November 14, 2015 at 7:34 pm#804751kerwinParticipantNick,
You know those are useless without love. (1 Corinthians 13)
I believe the Peter learned to live according to the Spirit so at some point he was reborn in Spirit but Scripture does not explicitly say when.
In also does not tell us when he was immersed in the name of Jesus.
November 14, 2015 at 8:35 pm#804756NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
So the fruit is not as important as you make out?
you are unconvinced about such things.
November 15, 2015 at 6:23 am#804767kerwinParticipantNick,
The fruit of the Spirit is summed up as love even though a fruit is also love.
The fruit is more important than the gifts even though Luke seems to emphasize the gifts in the book of Acts.

November 15, 2015 at 6:27 am#804770NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
So you remain doubtful that Peter and the apostles were given an amazing blessing, baptism in the Spirit.
November 15, 2015 at 6:28 am#804771kerwinParticipantNick,
I am not going beyond Scripture which is not the same as “baptism in Spirit being a mystery to me”.
November 15, 2015 at 6:39 am#804774kerwinParticipantNick,
As I already said, I assume they were given that blessing but Acts does not literally tell that is the case.
November 15, 2015 at 7:10 am#804775NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
And your assumption add value to what is written?
Your mind is the ultimate guide for you?
Would you believe if God raised a man from the dead?
November 15, 2015 at 7:45 am#804777kerwinParticipantNick,
I believe you assume that Peter and the other 120 disciples were immersed in the name of Jesus as well even though it only states that those that were converted were added to their number that day.
It is not written that they were but does that mean they were not?
November 15, 2015 at 7:49 am#804779terrariccaParticipantJesus baptized his disciples with the holy spirit days before the pentecost ,
November 15, 2015 at 8:39 am#804783NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
Why would you divert?
The brothers were washed in the Word Jn 15.3
November 15, 2015 at 8:41 am#804784NickHassanParticipantHi T,
They were given the Spirit before Pentecost. jn 20.22.
But their baptism in the Spirit was at pentecost.
November 15, 2015 at 8:43 am#804785kerwinParticipantTerrarica,
You are assuming that the words “receive the Holy Spirit” means that Jesus baptized them with the Holy Spirit but it is not what is written. It is as good a hypothesis as any other but how do we test if it is true or false?
John 20:22New English Translation (NET Bible)
22 And after he said this, he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.
November 15, 2015 at 8:45 am#804786kerwinParticipantNick,
But their baptism in the Spirit was at pentecost.
A nice hypothesis but how do we test if it is true or false?
November 15, 2015 at 8:49 am#804787kerwinParticipantNick,
Do you believe Jesus is implying in Jn 15.3 that his sacrifice is not needed for them to be born of Spirit?
