Miia,
I understand that other things seem to distract us at times. I hope things are all right for you and yours.

There is no scriptural support for your idea the Spirit is given at water immersion.
Usually hands were laid on for the giving of the Spirit.
August 23, 2015 at 11:50 am#802371942767ParticipantThe Prophets of the OT did have an anointing from God to enable them to obey God. The did have the Holy Spirit in order that God speak to humanity through them, but they were not born again.
Of John the Baptist, of whom the scriptures state that he was filled with the Spirit from birth, Jesus states the following:
Matthew 11:11 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

I know that baptism is a commandment. I said that every believer should obey the commandment, if he is able to do so, but first comes faith with a repentant heart, obedience to God’s commandments is the result of one’s believing with a repentant heart.

Mt 28:19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
show one more scripture that says that we have to be “baptized in the NAME of the father ;the NAME of the son and the NAME of the holy spirit ,
this would increase my knowledge of Baptisme requirement ? thanks (baptism in three names that is )

That also sounds like what I have heard from Scripture.

Do you agree with Marty’s last post to me?
August 23, 2015 at 7:03 pm#802385NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
Would you ASSUME you have been given the Spirit?
The Spirit does not lead to the glorification of men and their wisdom.
August 23, 2015 at 8:16 pm#802387kerwinParticipantNick,
I have no idea where your last words come from as just previously I asked if you agree with Marty.
August 23, 2015 at 10:56 pm#802391MiiaParticipantMiia,
The thief and all those that are saved from damnation outside the new covenant are saved as a result of those in the new covenant who by faith learn to live by the Spirit the receive when immersed in water in the authority of Jesus Christ.
Like Abraham before him the thief was credited with righteousness and the result of righteousness is eternal life. His faith revealed that if given an opportunity he would have adhered to the gospel of Christ.
John 7:39 teaches us the Holy Ghost was not given until Jesus was glorified and it is that Holy Spirit that Peter teaches us is received when a believer repents and is immersed in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of their sins. Those that do at Peter instructed that day enter the multitude of those that should be saved from their sins and by extension damnation.
Kerwin,
I agree with you, thank you that was well said.
There is more to the gospel than just being immersed in water. Being immersed is one of the basics of the gospel.
Yes, but it is the theme of this thread.

Hi Marty,
I would agree with your statement concerning obedience to baptism and faith, but often obedience to God’s commandments and a repentant heart comes well after baptism.August 23, 2015 at 11:05 pm#802393MiiaParticipantMarty/ Mia

Terraricca,
Matthew 28.19 is apparently a spurious verse not found in the original scriptures. All other related verses show baptism in the name of Jesus Christ alone, example:
Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, (Acts 2.38).
Peter and John came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit, for he had not yet fallen on any of them, but they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus, (Acts 8.14).
And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, (Acts 10.48).
On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus, (Acts 19.5).

Hi Nick, before I received the spirit which was about 20 years after water baptism, I had a lady praying with me regularly. She would lay her hands on me and pray and prophesize. I guess it could be an often neglected step.
August 24, 2015 at 7:59 am#802401kerwinParticipantNick,
Romans 6 clearly states that being immersed in Jesus Christ is to be immersed into his death. It also claims that the old self died with him and just as a believer died with then so they live with him.
As we have already discussed the old self lives by the flesh and the new self lives by the Spirit.
The bonds to sin are broken when a believer receives the Spirit so that that person “should not serve sin”. (Romans 6:6)
There is definitely a Scriptural link between being immersed in the name of Jesus and receiving the Spirit.
August 24, 2015 at 8:01 am#802402942767ParticipantHi Mia:
I as baptized as an infant in the Catholic church, and again by immersion when I joined a Southern Baptist church, but I do not consider these a valid water baptism because I did not truly believe with a repentant heart, but God does not do things in the same way every time.
However, the scriptures state the following:
Romans 8:
9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

Of course, you do not have to do anything that you do not want to do. You have the freedom to obey or not to obey the Word of God. There are many examples of believers being baptized in water after believing the gospel.
Acts 2:38 is as follows, after some who crucified the Lord believed the gospel:
Acts 2:37-39King James Version (KJV)
37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
I hope this helps.

Yes you believe that.
But is it supported in scripture?
Where in Acts is it shown?

every single one of them were Jews and at that time Cornelius was not yet accepted
August 24, 2015 at 2:13 pm#802417942767ParticipantSo, Pierre, what does the fact that these to whom the Apostle Peter was speaking were Jews? The scripture states that the promise is also to those who are far off. There is only one gospel for all peoples.
