Simplyforgiven………Thanks they just can't get it in there heads i was never talking about our Freedom or liberty we have to Excercise our Wills, that a given we all know that , I was talking of how the Will works in us the will “itself” . The word a “FREEWILL” as applying to the Will itself is a OXYMORON , no Will is “FREE” in itself or it simply would not even be a will , to will demands ” Causality” even God's will is not Free, Scripture says God does “All” things after the (council) of his Will. This show his will is being (COUNCiLED) and therefore is not a “FREEWILL” at all. God has power to excercise His “COUNCILED WILL” and we do too with in limits of our power.

Peace and love to you and yours brother……………………………………………………..gene

Terricca………Can't you see i have never said we do not have Freedom to EXCERCISE our WILL, i have never denyed that , I am not talking about our Liberty to use our Will I am talking about the WILLS themselves .  Why can't you people understand that?

for 3 years I have told you we do not care for the philosophy of freewill that will not accomplish anything except contraverse, and dispute,

what we talking about is the free will we use to choose all we do ,even is their are influences ,we have that power to resist or not to resist  them because we are free in our will ,

if this would be not true then life is not worth to be lived

Terricca………..Those influences in you captivate you, and form your Will rather you do them or not they are still there. So that hardly makes your mind which makes up your Will “FREE”  becasue you are held captive by them.

Jesus came to set the “CAPTIVES” Free. Those are the Wills of People being held captive by their thoughts. This is done by the Sprit of GOD, not by the Will of Man, but by the WILL of GOD.
    Therefore Paul says;

Rom 9:11……..> For the childern being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works but of him that calls; (12…> It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger, (13….> as it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated. (14…> What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid (15…> For he says to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion

Now notice carefully Pierre…..Verse 16……> So then it is “not” of him that “Wills”, nor of him that “runs”, but “OF” God that shows “mercy”

Our Wills mean nothing but express our own desires but it is still “all” up to our Heavenly Father himself.  IMO

peace and love to you and yours ……………………………..gene

    To all,

    What is free will?

I have no even obtained a straight answer on that question. I thing Gene gave the idea it is random choice.

It is the ability to choose freely among certain choices or parameters. A will is not invoked when there is no choice.

    T,

I am not yet voicing my opinion as I desire to have a consensus on what is meant by free will first.

I am not yet voicing my opinion as I desire to have a consensus on what is meant by free will first.

You are not willing at this stage.
You are entitled to that because you are free to choose when you will reveal your opinion.

    hi

I know that free will can not imply that if I want to fly ,I can jump off the roof of a tower,or swim in the ocean 1000 feet deep,

free will is and should be understood within our nature and form ,

just as we should not expect a bird to read and write ,and have a degree in science ,

sure we are influenced by our surroundings ,just as a bird can not stand on a tree what is not there

Agreed. Free will is the ability choose freely among certain parameters or choices. We can’t choose anything, but we can choose among that which is possible.

    To whomever is concerned,

I was hoping Gene would contribute his idea of what free will means as I believe it diverges from that which myself, t8, and terraicca seem to share.

Given that we choose from our own will my next question is did God create our will?

God designed this so we could choose to love God or not.
The two trees in Eden represented this choice and the angels that fell must have been free to fall from God if they chose.
God provides the mechanism by which we can make this choice.

No choice means no ability to truly love, because love with no choice is not love, rather following the program.
Anyone who loves you does so because they can choose to love and can choose not to do that if they wanted.

There is even a popular saying that touches on this subject:
“If you love something, set it free. If it comes back, it’s yours. If it doesn’t, it never was yours.”

    T8 and whomever is concerned,

I understand that God designed us to choose. I may have worded my question badly because what I really want to know is why we choose what we choose. If it is random or external to us then it is not free choice. Scripture speaks of those that hunger and thirst for righteousness and it also speaks of those that love darkness. What makes a person one of those instead of the other.

It is very clear from scriptures that we have free will

Note how many promises of God begin with “if” or “whosoever”

How many incredible promises are available that should we choose to believe them, our lives would truly glorify God

    Romans 10:9-10

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

    John 8:31-32

    …If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

    Mark 11:23-24

For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them , and ye shall have them .

    John 14:6

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Do we choose, by our free will to come to the Father by Jesus Christ or not.

The choices and the ability to make those choices are ours.

We can live very powerful lives if and when we choose to believe

If we couldn’t choose and instead everything was just a program playing out, then we would hardly be responsible for our so-called decisions. Judgement would be a waste of time. Why judge someone when they cannot choose. Pointless and even vindictive.
