Sorry about the downtime.
The Forum was moved and although it was an easy and quick process, it took a while for the domain name to propagate to point to the new server.

it seems to be faster ,right ??
October 19, 2011 at 9:50 pm#261020ProclaimerParticipantYes it is.
And I have more control over the server resources.
So it should be more robust in future.October 19, 2011 at 11:45 pm#261021terrariccaParticipantt8
it is just great ,fast I like it
October 23, 2011 at 4:32 pm#261155mikeboll64BlockedAny idea why some people were able to log on after 12 hours and others, like me, had to wait a whole week? Perhaps the internet provider we use?
October 24, 2011 at 7:58 pm#261197AdminKeymasterYeah I am still learning about such things because I rarely move sites from A-B.
But I would say it is your ISP.
Theoretically, DNS zones are updated each day, and some every couple of hours, but I think that some ISPs lag behind.
I was able to see the site 2 hours after the change at work on Friday.
When I went home, I couldn't see the site at home during the weekend, and New Zealand had a long weekend, (3 days).
It shows there is a big difference between ISPs and unfortunately, I am at their mercy. The good news is that the site has personal name servers now.
This might not mean much to most people, but in a nutshell, if I decide to move the site again, there will be no downtime because the nameservers will remain the same.
However, I am likely to keep the site where it is for a long time as I now have my own server where I host a number of sites.

I wasn't able to get on, then I was, and then I wasn't again.
But it seems to be OK now. Thanks for the fix.God bless

October 25, 2011 at 10:40 pm#261268shimmerParticipantHi.
I got through fine with a different computer/IP so it must be IP related.
October 26, 2011 at 12:43 am#261270seekingtruthParticipantComputers work fine, but smartphone still does not work.
Thanks T8 for all your efforts they are appreciated.
October 26, 2011 at 9:37 pm#261279ProclaimerParticipantOK, I think I have got to the bottom of this problem.
I've found that my private nameservers were missing an A records in the DNS zone on the server. I've corrected this as it likely caused mixed results with DNS resolution.
I performed a DNS test on http://intodns.com and no longer see any reported issues. Please allow a few hours for these DNS corrections to propagate.October 26, 2011 at 9:41 pm#261280shimmerParticipantIt's working for me again straight away.
October 26, 2011 at 10:01 pm#261281mikeboll64BlockedYay! I can log on to HN again!
I believe it was partly ISP related because the only time in the last week and a half I got on was when I was using my parent's WiFi connection.
I tried my own broadband and two other WiFi connections during that time with no luck.
Anyway, apparently the problem is solved. Thanks for the effort you put into keeping HN updated and running fast and smooth t8!
October 26, 2011 at 11:38 pm#261287ProclaimerParticipantGreat finally.
Twas a good education for me in A records and DNS zones.
Should add that to my CV, I am an expert now.October 27, 2011 at 1:11 am#261290seekingtruthParticipantWorks on my phone too
