    Hi Nick

    Body spirit and soul

    Genesis 2:7
“And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul .         Dust of the ground   + breath of life = soul.       Man becomes  a living soul ,it’s not something that was formed or given  the soul becomes ” A living being.” There is no division Nick between the spirit and soul. God bless.

Anthony. …i believe our bodies are just changed from being able to die to not being able to die.

    Pauls said this,
1 Cor 15:42-44….So also the resurection of the dead. It is sown in coruption; it is raised in incoruption: 43..It is sown in dishonur; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power. 44… it is sown a natural “body” it (the same body) a spritual “body” there is a natural body and there is a spritual body.

Notice what is sown (IT) IS, what is the IT, IT is our bodies? AND what is raised the same (it) is, whats the difference, the same “it” or (body) is raised in power, and honour, and incoruption.

We have the same bodies but “spritually” activated, why is it written , “every hair of your head is numbered”. If not for reconstruction? Same bodies, just spritually activated and impowered.

This same mortal body must put on importality, and does through the opperation of the spirit at the resurrection or changed by that same spirit at the return of JESUS.

REMEMBER when after the resurection when Jesus went through the door and the apostles thought he was a spirit, he said he was not a spirit, because a spirit has not flrsh and bone as had. That was after his resurection, he still had the body he died with only spritually activated m i believe that is exactly what happen to us also after we are resurected or changed.

Peace and love to you and yours. …..gene

    Nick,

If you read through the ample amount of scriptures that use the words soul and spirit in it you will discover a few things. You deny these scriptures still.

I have already showed you through scripture that the words soul and spirit are used interchangeably.  You have YOUR OWN DEFINITIONS it seems. In scripture they are used to represent your mind/heart, your life, and the breath of God that makes you living. When God removes His breath of life, you are no longer living, you are dead. You are a dead soul, your brain no longer functions and so you know nothing, you can’t make any plans, you cannot do any work, you cannot think, you cannot repent, you cannot praise God in sheol.

You said to Anthony, “The writer does not speak of the division between soul and spirit. Man is a living soul and that life comes from the spirit within him that returns to God at death. The salvation of the soul is the hoped for outcome of our short time on earth.”

What returns to God is the breath of life. We no longer have the breath of life in our bodies, without that breath the mind and heart of us dies as the brain cannot function without oxygen.

7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.

22 All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, died.

4 The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.

That breath God takes away from us when we die we are no longer breathing the breath of life.

1 Thess 5:23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Isaiah 26:9 My soul yearns for you in the night; in the morning my spirit longs for you. When your judgments come upon the earth, the people of the world learn righteousness.

When you die you no longer yearn or long, you’d have to have knowledge in the grave, and we are told directly that we do not!!

Ecclestiastes 9:10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

Our soul and our spirit, our life with it’s heart and mind ceases to exists when God removes the breath of life from us. That is what DEATH is. Life is when your soul, spirit, and body that exist together have God’s breath of life in it.

When we are alive we are breathing in oxygen, when we die we no longer have that breath. God by the power of His Spirit gives us that breath and takes that breath away. In Genesis it says that Adam became a living soul when God gave him the breath of life a body breathing in oxygen, breathing out carbon dioxide the breath of life of plants.

God did not breath into Adam a spirit Nick, we are like the animals who also have the breath of life that God takes away, any other thought is pure VANITY as we are told from scripture. The spirit and body of Adam was formed from the dust of the ground, and when God put the breath of life into him he became a living soul. Without that breath man is a DEAD SOUL, with a dead spirit and a dead body.

Show us a scripture that God gave us LIFE by placing a spirit in us?

Define just what that spirit is Nick?

It may be hard for you to fathom God’s creation, how it is that the brain MADE of the DUST, the elements of the earth, is able to think, feel, know, desire, imagine but it does. When people loose oxygen in their brain, or their brain has suffered some other form of trauma, their brain can become dysfunctional, they loose memories, knowledge, they can loose certain feelings and desires. Did part of their spirit leave them and go to God and some of their spirit remained? If they are wicked is part of their spirit being tortured in hell, and the other part tortured on earth?

When Nick does a person receive this spirit that gives them life that you speak of?

Does it exist from conception, is it given in the womb at some point, or when children are born is God sending these spirits down?

What about your DNA Nick, and how you are biologically wired with certain parts of your character already established from your genes? A person’s character makes up who they are some people more naturally choose to be good over being bad, or be easy going verses stubborn. I have 2 kids one has a character more like their dad, the other more like myself, this comes from the genes that they received. Genes are made up from the elements of the earth, not some sort of mystical spirit thing. Within the body itself exist our spirit, without the body their is no spirit, other then people who are able to remember us by our character after we have died so our spirit lives on in the hearts of others.

Please tell us Nick exactly what it is in a person that can be consciously aware able to be tortured in hell?

Within our bodies is our character, which holds how we think, feel, respond to desires, it exists within our brains, our dna, made up by the elements of the earth, and it is made and grows through nature and nurture and when we die we no longer take in the breath of life, and it returns to the earth.

    Hi Gene,

Yes Jesus showed his old and now redundant flesh and bone body to his brothers and showed them he was not a spirit.

He was not yet taken up and glorified.

Now the Lord ( Kyrios) is the Spirit. (2cor 3.17).Now you can fellowship with the Father and the Son in the one Spirit.

    Hi Jodi,

Are you limited in what you can accept from spiritual scripture?

Is your carnal mind the ultimate  judge of what is the revealed truth of God?

Must a being  have all the functions of a body to exist, according to your understanding?

You can’t see the kingdom until you are reborn from above.

    Hi Jodi.

The BREATH OF LIFE is the BREATH OF GOD.

It is not the breathing of created beings but THE BREATH of the Creator.

For man in that BREATH is the soul and the spirit.

    Hi Jodi,

Ecclesiastes is not the ultimate source of deep truths about life and death.

It is the earthly view of what can be seen with the eyes.

Argue with God about the revelations of Lk 16.

    Hi Jodi,

If you do not understand how life now is received by going daily to the well of Life and dropping our bucket,

how could you understand that we need to find the waters that well up to eternal life before the wheel breaks,

the rope fails and the bucket falls to the bottom of the well? Eccl 12.Jn 7.

    Hi Jodi and Gene1

The Messianic Fulfillment of the feast

We are not left in any doubt as to how this feast was fulfilled by Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul tells us clearly:

1 Corinthians 15:20-23 But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. (21) For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. (22) For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. (23) But each in his own turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him.

jesus resurrectionChrist fulfilled the feast of firstfruits by being the firstfruits of the resurrection. Others in the Bible (such as Lazarus and Jairus’ daughter) had been raised from the dead prior to Christ’s resurrection but they were resurrected back into their old bodies which would eventually die again. Jesus was the first to be raised into a new resurrection body, never to die again! So He is the ‘sheaf’, the first of the harvest, that is waved before the Lord in celebration and with thanksgiving. In his book ‘Thus shalt thou serve’ C.W Slemming writes this little interesting point: ‘When the sheaves were cut from the fields and carried to the city, small vacant spots were left behind. When the Lord rose from the dead, He left behind Him a small vaccant spot, which still remains as a reminder of His resurrection – it is an empty tomb!’

And just as the sheaf was waved to represent the entire harvest to the left and the right, so the resurrection of Jesus was not just for Himself. He represented the many that ‘shall come from the east and the west’ (Mat 8:11) to faith in Him and be raised from the dead as well! As the offerings that were made on the feast of firstfruits were a sweet savor to God2, how much greater was the sweetness on the day Jesus rose from the dead? Corresponding to the fact that the crop was not kosher until the firstfruits were waved before God, so it took the resurrection of the Jesus to make us acceptable to God – Romans 4:25 ‘He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.’ Or, as Paul said: 1 Corinthians 15:17 ‘And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.’

But thank God that death could not hold Him down! And what of the day that this was to happen? We read above that this wave offering before the Lord of the firstfruits was to occur ‘the day after the Sabbath’. This is the first day of the week – Sunday – The day that Jesus rose from the dead!3

Mark 16:9 Now after He had risen early on the first day of the week, He first appeared to Mary Magdalene…’ 4

A closer look at the date of resurrection – The Mystery of the 17th

I have previously written a study on ‘The mystery of the 17th‘ based on the interesting events that have occurred on this day in the Old Testament. I would like to give a quick summary of these events here for they are all linked and are types of this day that Jesus was raised. So to quickly recap, the Passover lambs were sacrificed on the 14th Nisan. This is the day Jesus died. The feast of unleavened bread started the next day, on the 15th Nisan. This was when Jesus was buried in the tomb. The day after the Sabbath was the feast of firstfruits – this was the 17th Nisan. Which brings us to our question…Apart from the feast of firstfruits, what other events occurred on this day and what do they have to do with ‘resurrection’? Argh… now you are asking the right kind of question Noah’s ark comes through the waters and rests on the earth for the first time bringing new life to Noah and his family on the 17th of Nisan. (Gen 8:4)5 Coming through the waters and resting on dry land was a picture of the resurrection. Noah and his family were the firstfruits of what would be a whole new life!Israel came through the Red Sea on the 17th of Nisan having left at Passover on the 14th. (Chumney, ‘The seven festivals of the Messiah’, page 70). For them this was death to their old life (with the drowning of the Egyptians) and resurrection to a new life in God on the 17th!The manna which had fed the nation of Israel for the 40 years in the wilderness stopped on the 16th of Nisan and from the 17th onwards Israel feasted on the new grain of the promised land (Josh 5:10-12). This again is a picture of the new life in the Promised Land that came on the 17th!The death sentence hung over the entire Israelite nation as their sworn enemy, Haman, had convinced the king to sign a decree to destroy them (Esther 3:1-12). The decree went out on the 13th Nisan (Esther 3:12). Esther then proclaimed a three day fast (Esther 4:16) for the 14th, 15th and 16th. On the 3rd day (5:1) Esther approached the king saying to herself ‘If I perish, I perish!’ (an attitude of death or resurrection… it’s in God’s hands!) On the 17th Nisan, the tables were turned on the enemy Haman and instead of the Jews being destroyed, his own life was taken! Again, a picture of life out death on this amazing day!

    The personal fulfillment of Firstfruits

The good thing about the word ‘firstfruits’ is the word ‘first’. If there is a first, then there will be others that follow. Hopefully that includes you! This is what Paul was teaching in the Corinthian passage quoted above. Have a look at it again:

1 Corinthians 15:20-23 But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. (21) For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. (22) For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. (23) But each in his own turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him.

Paul is reminding us that Jesus’ resurrection is a guarantee of our resurrection (as long as we belong to Him!) He has been raised and has a new resurrection body but the same will happen to all that are His at the right time. And that right time is the return of Jesus Christ for His bride. This will be covered in a lot more detail in the ‘Feast of Trumpets’. Using the imagery of a grain of wheat going down into the ground Jesus said:

John 12:24 I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.

Believers in Jesus Christ are the many ‘seeds’ that He spoke about. He fell into the ground and died but He didn’t remain there! He rose up again and in like manner, the ‘many seeds’ – those that believe in Him, will do likewise. And they will have a new body like unto His new body.

1 Corinthians 15:41-44 The sun has one kind of splendor, the moon another and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendor. (42) So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; (43) it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; (44) it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.

But we shouldn’t just think that we are to wait until His return to have new life. No. The personal aspect of firstfruits reminds us that we are new creations now. Yes, we still live in a fallen world in a fallen body so, just as you may have possibly experienced, that brings with it one, two or a few thousand issues with it… But praise God that believers in Him have been born again, are a new creation in Him, and have been given the Holy Spirit to be in us what we are not. And even this gift of the Spirit is mentioned in terms of being a ‘firstfruits’. There is so much more still to come!

Romans 8:22-23 We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. (23) Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.

We are new creations with the Spirit of God. In light of this, our personal response and fulfillment of this feast is be ‘consecrated’ unto Him and offer ourselves back to the Lord for His use.

Romans 6:13 Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness.
Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God–this is your spiritual act of worship.

At the personal level, the feast of Unleavened Bread spoke of being separated FROM sin/leaven. The feast of firstfruits speaks of being separated UNTO the Lord (consecrated). God bless just a little treat.

    Hi Anthony,

Some are stuck in the dust of earth.

They think life depends on the visible things.

Man became like one of us, God and the His angels.

That likeness is not according to dust but being a living soul.

Man became a living soul within flesh by the breath of our amazing God.

Flesh rots and the spirit returns to God but the soul of a man awaits the judgement.
