I was wondering if there is plans in the future that can be made where we can be able to go an edit our posts? I belong to other forums and it is a great attribute to the forum. If not, it would be interesting as to why not.
July 17, 2006 at 9:17 pm#22289MrBobParticipantEditing of posts was once allowed, but was later restricted because members were changing the entire or entire meaning of the post.
Last night, however, I noticed that I could edit my posts. Maybe you could double check.

July 17, 2006 at 11:11 pm#22306NickHassanParticipantHi,
It is a privilege granted to longstanding and helpful contributors. Be patient H.July 18, 2006 at 12:01 am#22314AdminKeymasterYes everyone use to be able to edit, but this feature was abused by 2 members and was subsequently taken away for that reason.
Editing past posts to change its meaning can completely render a conversation senseless and wastes the time of those who bothered to reply to the original post.
One of those members edited all their posts when they decided to change one of their beliefs and the other edited their post when they realised that they were losing their argument. Instead of admitting they were wrong and letting others learn from this experience, pride made this person change the post completely, thereby again wasting the time of those who bothered to reply.
After a period of time, a member who posts on a regular basis and proves to be honest and trustworthy in their search for truth and dealing with others, is given editing rights by being moved from the 'members' group to 'associate members' group. Agreeing with what I or other admins believe is not a prerequisite.
The point with the Heaven Net forums is to gain quality and honest discussion among those who teach. Giving editing rights is risky and can depreciate that quality at anytime.
E.g., if one member who posts regularly decides to wipe out all their posts, it can have quite an impact on the quality of many discussions. In such a case, I would be inclined to import an older database that had the posts to keep the original context, but the price for that would be losing all the posts that were posted after that backup.
Personally I think if someone changes their beliefs and is embarrassed by their previous teachings, they can give up their old profile and create a new member profile to start again. After all God is graceful enough to let us start anew.
