(1)Ed, the problem is delusion and bias and self deception.
(2)If slavery were still legal, if this was 100 years ago and you were living in the U.S. Would you go down to the town square and buy a person and own them and beat them if you felt it necessary, making sure to not beat them so hard that they lose an eye or their teeth, or that they can’t get up after a couple days.
(3)Right now, where I am, I would find it hard to believe that I would do a lot of things the bible endorses, regardless of when I lived.

Where our morality matches the bible it’s easy to say it comes from the bible.

If you answer this “why” question, which given your history there is zero chance of happening, it in effect will be like me answering your question.

It doesn’t exactly say not to associate with alcoholics; and proverbs,
but Ecclesiastes more so, is about the man that walks under the sun.Meaning the flesh man (as in the physical). The spiritual man can
certainly associate with drunkards. But obviously when they are drunk
you are going to want to steer clear. How can avoidance bring them the truth?OK, it’s close enough, we’ll call it a hit – based on the JW’s wanting to teach good morals to their members.

All that surprises me is how much violence has declined. Yes, it surprises me. Because I was under the spell of some cognitive illusions that you and everyone seem wholely unaware of, illusions which make things “feel” one way, while all evidence points another way.
The way we don’t bear children as much or
The way it’s no longer legal to beat wives or
The way you can no longer burn cats alive for fun or use real horses jumping to their death in a movie or
The way people just don’t want to see public tortue the way they used to or
The way they no longer want to duel to the death or
The way countries are no longer constantly trying to conquer each other or
The way slavery is no longer legal and acceptable worldwide or
The way lunching black people has vanished or
The way at one time all cultures sacrificed their babies to gods but no longer do so.All these things surprised me.

David……I am glad you are no longer a JW, AND I THINK THAT BECAUSE PEOPLE CAN SEE HOW EVIL EFFECTS LIVES MORE NOW, BECAUSE OF MASS MEDIA COVERAGE IT HAS HAD AN EFFECT. I ALSO BELIEVE THAT BASIC MORALITY IS DERIVIED FROM THE WORDS OF GOD, AND IS SHOWN IN HIS COMMANDMENTS And OTHER SCRIPTURES ALSO.
