Those who are saved can have an assurance of that salvation. But it is equally true that those who are not, can believe they are saved. This is evident from all these diverse groups with diverse gospels and doctrines that believe they are saved with some believing that only they are saved to the exclusion of others.
So how do we know if we are saved when we know that many believe they are saved and yet disagree and even condemn each other?
The difference between the two is that one knows in their spirit with signs and/or wonders from God that demonstrate their standing with God, while others have a head knowledge and intellectual belief that they must be saved because they perhaps believe that they or only they have the truth. The latter explains those who call Jesus Lord, yet he says to them that he never knew them. Further proof that he didn’t know them is because he calls them workers of iniquity. In other words their works are not of God, but of themselves. They are not hearing the shepherd and thus he is not their head, rather they take their instructions from a man-made denomination or structure and think it is the Church that they are working for.
Denominations generally do works that are really more about promoting themselves and their Church than promoting the Kingdom of God. Yet we are clearly instructed to do all things in the name of Jesus Christ and that even a glass of water given in his name shall not lose its reward. But they do works in their own name. Like Babel, they build towers (churches) in their own name with their steeples rising up to the heavens and the glory in their own name. This is why we see so many divisions. God has divided them in the same way that he divided those at Babel. And he does this so that they are not united in their iniquity lest they accomplish anything their hearts desire. Division is God’s way of lessening iniquity.
So we have two kinds of people that know they are saved, those who are and those who are not. So how do we know which camp we are in? Further, it is also possible that we are saved, but not to be sure of it. In that case, I think these words of Paul are pertinent. “Enlighten the eyes of our hearts” in Ephesians 1:18. So with that, here is a list of verses that enlighten us to understand our own salvation.
