“My argument against God was that the universe seemed so cruel and unjust. But how had I got this idea of just and unjust? A man does not call a line crooked unless he has some idea of a straight line. What was I comparing this universe with when I called it unjust?”

“As long as you are proud you cannot know God. A proud man is always looking down on things and people: and, of course, as long as you are looking down you cannot see something that is above you.”

That is a very wise saying.

I have often thought this myself. We understand that something is wrong with the world, so where does that come from if we were born into the world and know nothing else.

And if Evolution would have us accept survival of the fittest is how we got to be human, then where do we get the idea that killing is wrong when that is contradictory to the survival of the fittest ethos.
