How does COVID-19 compare to other recent viruses?

Experts say Wuhan is milder than other illnesses in the COVID-19 family, such as severe acute respiratory syndrome (sars) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (mers). But it is still deadly dangerous. COVID-19 has an estimated mortality rate of 3.4% but it could be a lot lower than that as milder cases of infection are not likely tested.

The main problem with fighting COVID-19 is its infection rate which is estimated to be higher than the other recent viruses. COVID-19 has two or three times the transmission rate compared to the flu and the case fatality rate for COVID-19 is around 30 times higher than the flu. Here’s how it compares to other more serious viruses:

Infection rates

COVID-19 has the highest infection rate, however it could also be much lower due to milder cases of COVID-19 infection going unreported. This stat will become more accurate over time. The graph shows that it is similar to sars.

Here is the mortality rate of recent viruses

Look at Mers, I never realised how deadly that was.

Statistics for different viruses

Imagine if the first reported cases in China were not suppressed by the regime. It could have been contained like mers.

Mortality stats by age for Covid-19

Like all initial stats, as time progresses we will get more accurate data on COVID-19 which could change what is currently being reported. For this reason, I also didn’t bother quoting the sources for the data.

There are a lot of theories about the origins and spread of the new v1raz This discussion is dedicated to keeping track of the v1raz and learning the truth about it.

Doctors arrested for revealing the truth

This video narrated by sepentenza suggests that doctors who first tried to raise the alarm of the spread of the virus were detained and forced to sign confessions.

Coronavirus is God’s judgment on China’s widespread cruelty towards animals. If you don’t eat meat you are immune. Wait and see.

I think this was mentioned in one of those videos.

Due to starvation in China, they came up with ways to cook all kinds of things. And it creates the chance for viruses like this.

It could be said that Socialism created this virus.

Yes, their cruelty to animals is abhorrent.

    It is abhorrent t8

Not sure if NOT eating meat makes one immune to catching the airborne virus, but I think it might help with resilience.

Is that true of any other virus. If so, then I think it is possible. If not, then very unlikely IMO.

There’s a lot of cruelty to humans too.

I don’t know t8, but I do know that since I stopped eating meat (13 months now) I haven’t caught a single cough cold, and I work around kids. Coronavirus started in meat. Don’t know if there’s any link between coronavirus resilience or even immunity and vegetarianism but there could be. Time will tell.

New Zealand will at level 4 lock down in less than 24 hours. All non-essential business, schools, and other organisations and gatherings will close down. We are expected to remain at home and leave in order to get supplies. We can walk around the local area as long as you stay 2 metres away from others. This is the plan for the next 4 weeks for now. This will be interesting.

We are following Italy’s trend too which is not good.

There was an interesting story on TVNZ News today. They basically said that they don’t want that spiked growth because it would exceed our ability to help everyone. Rather, they want the curve to peak under our capacity to handle the sick. While that is pretty obvious, the shocking thing was both graphs expected the same amount of deaths, they just wanted to slow the inevitable down so medical services would not be overwhelmed.

I also glanced over an article about Israel’s handling of this. Not sure if this was their plan or whether they were contemplating this, or even if this is true because I haven’t verified it, but the plan is this. To isolate the elderly, then let the virus sweep through population minus the elderly, and once the virus infects everyone, all who remain will be immune, thus the virus can’t then jump to the elderly when they come out of isolation. I guess they figure that the amount of deaths among the young is acceptable given the circumstances.
