Well I didn’t bring up the nostril thing, but what you said reminds me of this:

Jehovah God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

The Holy Spirit guides us into all truth. But we need to respond to that truth in accordance with God’s will.

The Spirit can guide a man, but the man still needs to comply.

What is the spirit of the law?
Does it exist?
If so, then surely the spirit of a message can be determined.

Reason is important in spiritual matters because God reveals truth and he wants us to understand that truth. He wants us to reason together with him.

Reason is not always just man trying to work stuff out, but can include pondering and meditating on that which God has revealed in order to understand it as deeply as possible.
