I do not claim to have all the answers, but I am going to give you my 2 cents worth.

It is possible that once man fell and his nature became corrupt and sinful, then all of nature fell too.

When man fell, God cursed the Earth and changed the plant life as a direct result of man’s actions.

I agree Alex. God in his mercy spared Adam and Eve access to the Tree of Life when they fell into sin.

This allowed them or their offspring the merciful act of perishing rather than live eternally as sinners.
