I didn't say that the verse said that Jesus is also the only true God. I was giving you another way of understanding Jesus' intent. What I said in other words is that it is true that Jesus is not only true God because He was both true God/Man at that time. This is the only way that the Father could be the only true God when comparing Him to Jesus,…[Read more]

Kerwin,I am asking you to use the word 'root' in 'root of Jesse,' from Isa 11, in the same way that Hebrew word used there for 'root' is used when you refer to Jesus as the 'root of Jesse.' I gave you a list of where that particular Hebrew word is used in the OT and asked if you could show me in any of those verses where the Hebrew word means what…[Read more]

This verse can be read in more than one way:John 17:3Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.1. The Father is the true God, Jesus is the true God/Man. The Father is not true God/Man. Jesus is not only true God, He is the true God/Man.2. Jesus is making a contrast, not between the Father…[Read more]

That is a complete misuse of the teaching about removing the plank in your own eye before removing the speck in your brother's eye. The plank and speck are both not true in that teaching.Matthew 71“Judge not, that you be not judged. 2For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. 3…[Read more]

Also, btw, Thomas agrees with Ignatius by calling Jesus his Lord and his God.

The early fathers, when using the flame illustration, speak of eternally emitting from the source and that there never was a time that the flame did not emit from the source. I believe their point is you can't have one without the other, like you can't have a father without there being an offspring in existence for as long as the father was a…[Read more]

t8,You are not getting that I speak of two powers of YHWH.Cell (a) is the first power of YHWH in the illustration.Cell (b) is the second power of YHWH in the illustration. The first power of YHWH (cell a) brought out of Him the second power of YHWH (cell b). Cell B is identically the same as Cell A except it is a different cell. In other words,…[Read more]

No you don't Mike. If you truly believed that your heavenly Father existed from eternity, you would believe in an eternal Son.

Mike,Quote Because the scriptures I know about speak of Jesus having origins “from days of old”, and being the “firstborn of every creature”, and being “the beginning of the creation by God”, etc.And you do not understand ANY of those things accurately, imo.

Mike,Are you afraid that if the 'Word' from John 1:1 existed eternally, then your theology is challenged?
Lightenup replied to the topic Origen's understanding of John 1:1 in the forum Exta-biblical Writings 13 years, 1 month ago
Mike,A person can exist before they are named. Being named doesn't cause the 'existence' of their person. Did John the Baptist exist before he was named 'John?' Yes or No. Was he John before he was named 'John' in his father's mind?

Quote (jb2u @ Mar. 25 2013,20:26)Lightenup.. please do not misquote me. I never compared Jesus to the prophets/disciples!!!! Mike,Ignatius is saying:The Word was eternal, not proceeding forth from silence. I take that to mean…there wasn't a period of 'no word' (silence) before the eternal word proceeded forth.

Lightenup replied to the topic Origen's understanding of John 1:1 in the forum Exta-biblical Writings 13 years, 1 month ago
This is good from Ignatius, the one discipled by John the Evangelist who wrote John 1:1. I would think that He would have a proper understanding of whether the 'Word' that was in the beginning was 'made' or not. Quote Chapter VII.—Beware of false teachers. For some are in the habit of carrying about the name in wicked guile, while yet they p…[Read more]
