Hi 94,Because the Spirit is the Parakletos, the Helper, which is by definition a person. As opposed to paraklesis, which is help and by definition impersonal. This is according to Trenchard's New Testament Greek, page 119.Tim

David,Thanks for those references. It's good to see that scholars are putting everything into this. I don't know Greek so I can't comment on that.I'd like to step back though, David, and ask what exactly you think it means for Jesus to be “a god.” Was he created? When? Is He like God? In what way? In what way not? How can someone who isn't…[Read more]

This is ridiculous. Heaven, t8, whoever, you have to do something. Nick says things are my words that aren't my words. He ignores my requests to be polite. Please tell him to be civil so that people can actually discuss ideas on this forum without his attacks.

Hi Chosenone,I don't think we've chatted before. I'm Tim. I try to stick to the Trinity but your posts have been catching my eye. It happens that just as I used to be an arian, I also used to be a pretty radical dispensationalist, and like you, I believed “For us, not about us.” But with time I slowly realized that the Bible isn't divided into…[Read more]

sorry, that last paragraph should read, “at the beginning of the Bible the image of God …”

Ken,Good question about the image of God. It was actually the icing on the cake that only a few months ago made me a full blooded Trinitarian.Genesis 1:27: “God created man in his own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”So I think it's clear that the image of God isn't one person but, seemingly at first, at…[Read more]

Quote So Tim I just proved to you that there is Only One God.. Why do you deny that the Holy Spirit is God ?You say the Holy Spirit is seperate and a “Person” But yet you claim it is God.. But not the Father. Where the Logic in this??You follow a Trinity that goes aganist the word of God.Ok, Unisage, let's just put everything aside except the…[Read more]

Quote Paul teaches that there is one God, the Father, and one Lord, the Lord Jesus Christ. You say that there is one God the Father, Son, & Spirit and one Lord Jesus Christ, Lord Father, Lord Spirit. You need to repent of this. You teach against Paul the apostle.Does Jesus teach against Paul when He says, “I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and…[Read more]

Nick,I have never preached three deities, nor three gods. I've said from the beginning, I believe in one God. I've always said that I agree with the ecumenical creeds, which explicitly deny that there are three gods. You yourself said on May 1, “Jn1.1 speaks of two who are God.” By the standards you accuse me, you believe in two gods. But I…[Read more]

Not3in1,You're making a mistake. The Bible does not contradict itself. It does not leave the identity of God up in the air. It doesn't give us the right to decide who God is. 2 Peter 2:1 says that heretics will suffer swift destruction. This will be the fate of everyone who does not confess that Jesus is true God and the Lord of glory.Tim

Nick,At least stick to your own standards. Where is it written that the Father manifests Himself as the Spirit? Nowhere.U,All of those verses distinguish between the Father and the Spirit. If the Spirit is the Father, it makes no sense to say, “The Spirit of the Father.” “The Spirit of the Father” only makes sense if (1) The Spirit is part of…[Read more]
