When reading scripture, we need to be more sophisticated and to look carefully at the detail. This matters.
Spoken about the Son, the only begotten God:
“In the beginning, O Lord, You laid the foundations of the earth,
and the heavens are the work of Your hands.
11They will perish, but You remain;
they will all wear out like a g…[Read more]

Proclaimer said: “The sun was already created as it is part of the universe. What happens on Day 4, is that they appear in the vault.”
How about this, the “light” was the glory of God on day one as it entered the dimension of creation. The sun did not appear until day four when it was created.
Rev 21:23 And the city has no need of the sun or of…[Read more]

Proclaimer,
I would say the divine order is more like this:
God the Father → His only begotten Son who is the only begotten God → Creation

Mike,
You said: “I agree that Jesus is “the only of his kind”, but I wouldn’t try to build any doctrines around the translation “only-begotten” – as if it means Jesus literally spawned from the very loins of the Father.”
In other words, you don’t believe that Jesus is the only Son of God in the highest sense of the word, as if he is a Son in th…[Read more]

Proclaimer,
You said “John 1:18 calls Jesus the begotten God. Therefore he must be God Almighty right?”
John 1:18 NASB 1995 doesn’t merely call Jesus the begotten God but the ONLY begotten God. Therefore being the only begotten God would make him the only Son (in the highest sense) of the God who begat him. As the Son of God, he does the will…[Read more]

@Proclaimer @Gene @mikeboll64 and anyone else that cares to answer.
The question was:
Do you believe that John 1:18 in the NASB 1995 refers to Jesus as the only begotten God?
Everyone here that responded agree that John 1:18 in the NASB 1995 refers to Jesus as the only begotten God.
That’s great. We agree on something.

The Father is “the” God who is “the” God together with his Son, not separately from his Son. The Father and Son, together with their Spirit, are the God and Lord YHVH.
Lightenup replied to the topic Understanding Greek Grammar Brings Clarity in the forum Bible Texts & Translations 2 years, 11 months ago
The Word is THE only begotten God. John 1:18 helps us understand John 1:1c.
In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with the God and the Word was the only begotten God.

Hi Mike,
I’m back :).
you said: But I agree that God made the heaven and the earth ex nihilo (out of nothing).
I would say that God made the heaven and the earth out of water and particles in the water. That’s how I understand it anyway.

Danny, please don’t leave. We need you here because of people like proclaimer that wants to pretend that Jesus is not his God along with the Father in one post and in another post he admits that, in a sense, Jesus is God of him because Jesus is his head. Proclaimer cannot accept the interdependence of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit for some reason.

Carmel,
It was Jesus body that was resurrected on resurrection day, His spirit was in the hands of the Father at the time of the last breath on the cross. I believe that “today I have begotten you” refers to the Son according to the flesh, from the dead. Thus He is called the Firstborn from the dead. That was the day that the Son received the…[Read more]

In order to believe in the One true God, you must believe in the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. They are a package deal, a divine interdependency. If you want one true God, you must take all three: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
If you deny the Holy Spirit, you cannot receive the Father or the Son.
If you deny the Father, you cannot…[Read more]

Was Jesus begotten from the grave? If so, by whom?
Lightenup replied to the topic JOHN 1:1 who is the WORD? in the forum Scriptural Teachings 3 years, 3 months ago
Hi Mike,
The statement “today I have begotten you” is not said after Jesus’ baptism. That was said on the resurrection day. Jesus was begotten from the dead and thus firstborn from the dead. Clearly though, the Father was Jesus’ father before the resurrection day.
