What is a sodomite

I don't really feel comfortable talking about this subject but…
What is a sodomite?

Can anyone tell me?

I thought it was common knowledge refering to someone that practises anal sex. Have they changed the meaning of that word?
I looked it up and one definition said that it referred to a gay or lesbian person. I don't think this is the real meaning as heterosexuals also practise this. This is The New Age Sex. Another definition said it was it was a prostitute? Hello? New Age Dictionary. Lets change the meaning of words now shall we. The NWO is trying to confuse you, because they don't want you to cross reference with the bible…..the true bible that is.

The act of Sodomy is an abomination to God. I think the world should know what it truly means, and we would have to seek through more scriptures to see how God describes it.

This is just another example of an inconsistency among the many bibles. I've also pasted all the versions that agree with the KJV, so I'm not bias, but we need to be informed and everything needs to be tested.

From NETNotes, concerning the word the KJV renders as “sodomite”:

The male cultic prostitute was called קָדֵשׁ (qadesh; see note on the phrase “sacred prostitute” earlier in this verse).

The colloquial Hebrew term for a “secular” male prostitute (i.e., a sodomite) is the disparaging epithet כֶּלֶב (kelev, “dog”) which occurs in the following verse (cf. KJV, ASV, NAB, NASB).

So again, the Hebrew term specifically refers to a “holy male prostitute”, and not to an ordinary “sodomite” or “male prostitute”.

Notice the KJV translation of the next verse, where they do indeed translate “kelev” as “dog”.

The thing is that in the Hebrew culture, a secular male prostitute was called a “dog”.

So once again, the versions that distinguish between a regular old sodomite (“dog”) and a male cult prostitute (“holy prostitute”) are the ones that hit the nail on the head this time.

journey, I believe you have the verse wrong on the other comparison you did. Could you double check the book, chapter, and verse?

It is a translation that was based on lack of knowledge as the translators assumed all the people using a prostitute's services were men.

These were servants of a fertility godless. Just with that knowledge I would say homosexuality is not acceptable as even the people of that time could tell that such pairings were not fertile.

Pierre is right, Wakeup. The answers ARE right in front of you, but you refuse to see them.

In both of the verses journey posted, the Hebrew words are NOT the words for a secular “whore” or “sodomite”. The Hebrew words used refer SPECIFICALLY to male and female prostitutes that worked in the TEMPLE – not on the streets.

So the translations that SPECIFY that these were TEMPLE prostitutes, and not regular old “whores” and “sodomites”, are the ones that got it RIGHT in this case.

And look at Deuteronomy 23:18, which DOES speak of regular male and female prostitutes. Notice the Hebrew word translated as “whore” by the KJV is “zanah”……… which is NOT the same Hebrew word translated as “whore” by them in verse 17. “Zanah” DOES refer to a regular prostitute, while the Hebrew word in verse 17 refers to a TEMPLE or SHRINE prostitute.

And the KJV translates the Hebrew word “dog” as “dog” in verse 18, when that word is really a Hebrew slang referring to a regular male prostitute.

So the REAL teaching of verses 17 and 18 is that Israel should not employ male or female TEMPLE prostitutes – like the nations around them do.

And above and beyond that, Israelites cannot even use the earnings of REGULAR male and female prostitutes for any holy matter, such as payment to the temple for a vow they made, or whatever.
