WJ you are right! Jesus was resurrected on the first day “the Wave Sheaf offering”.
Luk 24:1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
Luk 24:2 And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.
Luk 24:3 And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.Luk 23:56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.
Mar 16:1 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.
Luke has Mary buying spices on the preparation day and resting on the seventh day Sabbath. If Jesus died on Friday a preparation day for the weekly Sabbath, then that Friday had to have been Passover day. And the annual Sabbath fell on the weekly Sabbath. This would be a one in seven chance of happening BUT not impossible!
Mark has Mary buying the spices AFTER the Sabbath. Did they stop at the store on the way to the tomb? Or did she buy the spices on Friday the preparation day. Certainly “A” Sabbath was past THEN Mary bought spices. And then rested the Sabbath day according to the commandment.
Mary could have bought the spices on Friday before Jesus was laid in the tomb. But Mark says it was “AFTER” the Sabbath that Mary bought the spices.
Three days and three nights Thur night Fri night Sat night-3 nights . Thur Day Fri Day Sat Day After three days and nights He was resurrected. So YES Jesus was in the tomb three days and three nights AND on the first day after the three days and nights He was resurrected. The Seventh day Sabbath was over ending the 3 days and nights.
Jesus did die on the Wednesday, the following day WAS an annual Sabbath, Friday was the regular preparation day for the weekly Sabbath. AT THE END OF THE SABBATH COMPLETED THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS. Jesus after three days and three nights was resurrected on the first day! The feast of “First Fruits” the “Wave Sheif offering”! Jesus is not a liar HE was in the heart of the earth three days and three nights. BUT HE WAS RESURRECTED ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK! AFTER THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS!

Most bibles do not have the original rendering of the passages that refer to the resurrection of Christ. Sometimes, the original Greek word s a b b a t w n “sabbaton” which means Sabbaths, (plural, more than one) has been rendered singular.
In the period of time between Christ's death and His resurrection there were two Sabbaths. The first one was the annual Sabbath on Nisan 15 (Passover Feast), and the second one was the weekly Sabbath that fell on Nisan 17. There was a day between those two Sabbaths in which the women went to buy spices to prepare the body of Christ (Mark 16:1).
We include a timeline so the reader can easily visualize the days between Yeshua/Jesus' death and His resurrection.
Chronology of Christ's burial and resurrection
Also, the reference to the day the women came to the tomb has been translated as “the first day of the week,” but the original Greek does not say that; the original Greek is mia twn sabbatwn “mia ton sabbaton,” which means “First of Sabbaths.” This expression, which has been incorrectly translated as “Sunday” or “the first day of the week,” actually refers to the wave sheaf offering. The wave sheaf offering was a yearly offering made to God from the first grains of the harvest and it always falls on the first Sunday after Passover.
Jesus was resurrected on the day of the wave sheaf offering because He is the wave sheaf offering.
See our file The Resurrection.
Let us look into the actual passages and see what they say:
Mark 16:1 So when the Sabbath [singular] had passed Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Salome purchased spices in order to come and grease him.The Sabbath that had passed was the annual Sabbath of Nisan 15. See our file Annual Jewish Holy Days.
Mary Magdalene brought spices
The women bought spices on Nisan 16, the day after Passover Feast.
Luke 23:56 and they went back to prepare spices and perfumed oils, but of course, they rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment.
They rested on the weekly Sabbath which fell that year on Nisan 17 –the day after they bought and prepared the spices. The weekly Sabbath is one of the most holy of all Sabbaths, except for Yom Kippur. In the weekly Sabbath no work can be done according to the 4th commandment in the Law of Ten Commandments.
It was growing light when Mary Magdalene approached the tomb of Christ
Matthew 28:1 After the Sabbaths [plural], when it was growing light on the “first of Sabbaths”, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to view the grave.
Remember, the phrase “First of Sabbaths” does not refer to Nisan 15; it refers to the 18th of Nisan, which is the first annual Sabbath of a period of seven weeks ending in Pentecost. See our file The Resurrection.
But the fact that this verse, Matthew 28:1, mentions “after the sabbaths,” (plural) shows that there was more than one Sabbath between Yeshua's death and His resurrection. Therefore, after the two Sabbaths (the 15th and the 17th of Nisan) had passed, when it was dawn of the “First of Sabbaths” (18th of Nisan), the women came to the tomb.
Luke 24:1
But on the First of Sabbaths, at early dawn, they came to the tomb carrying the spices which they had prepared, and certain [others] with them,Remember the women prepared the spices to embalm Jesus on the 16th of Nisan which fell on a Friday that year. They rested on the 17th of Nisan, which was a weekly Sabbath and went to Jesus' sepulchre on the 18th, which was a Sunday. That Sunday the women came to the tomb bringing the spices they had prepared. See the above timeline.
In conclusion, we know that there were two Sabbaths in between Christ's burial and His resurrection — one was an annual Sabbath, and the other was a weekly Sabbath. The women kept the weekly Sabbath according to the commandment, as they always did, even after Christ died. Our messiah and lord Jesus Christ was risen on the 18th of Nisan, in the day of the wave sheaf offering which always falls on a Sunday. This is proof that He really was inside the “belly of the earth” for three days and three nights fulfilling the sign of Jonah the prophet as stated in the scriptures. For more information on this topic read our file Sign of the Messiah.

Just want to make sure you have these things “perfectly clear.”Tues at dark (begins Passover) Lord's Supper
Wed. (Passover Day) Y'shua crucified and placed in the tomb just before dark. (first night)Thur. (High Sabbath Unleavened Bread)(first day second night)
Fri. (prep for weelky Sabbath) (second day, third night)
SA (weelky Sabbath) Y'shua rose from the tomb just before dark. (third night)
SUN (1st day of the week, also the Day of Fitst Friuts) Y'shua went to His Father in heaven to be “restored”
To clarify the Day of First Fruits read:
John 20:17 Y'shua says early on the first day, “Do not touch Me, I have not yet ascended to My Father.
Luke 24:39 later the first day Y'shua says, “Handle Me and see for yourself….
Some time in between being risen from the tomb and when He met His diciples later on that same day, Y'shua was with His Father and was restored, fulfilling First Fruits!
This does not change 3 days and 3 nights “in the heart of the earth”
This fits perfectly with all Scripture Old and New!!!

It asks for a miraculous sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah. 30 For as Jonah was a sign to the Ninevites, so also will the Son of Man be to this generation.
32 The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and now one greater than Jonah is here.

Quoting Jesus~ three days and three nights~. At the end of three days and three nights He was resurrected.
Laurel I know what you are saying that Jesus was resurrected on the Sabbath but fulfilled the “Wave Sheaf offering” by ascending to the Father on the first day.
However to complete three days and nights then Jesus would had to have been in the tomb “through the Sabbath”
Mat 28:1
(ASV) Now late on the sabbath day, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.
(CEV) The Sabbath was over, and it was almost daybreak on Sunday when Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb.
(DRB) And in the end of the sabbath, when it began to dawn towards the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalen and the other Mary, to see the sepulchre.
(ESV) Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb.
(GNB) After the Sabbath, as Sunday morning was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.
(GW) After the day of worship, as the sun rose Sunday morning, Mary from Magdala and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.
(KJV) In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.
(KJV+) In the end(3796) of the sabbath,4521 as it began to dawn2020 toward1519 the first3391 day of the week,4521 came2064 Mary3137 Magdalene3094 and2532 the3588 other243 Mary3137 to see2334 the3588 sepulcher.5028
(KJVR) In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulcher.
(LITV) But late in the sabbaths, at the dawning into the first of the sabbaths, Mary the Magdalene and the other Mary came to gaze upon the grave.
(MKJV) But late in the week, at the dawning into the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb.
(MSG) After the Sabbath, as the first light of the new week dawned, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to keep vigil at the tomb.
Mat 28:1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.
Mat 28:2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.At the END of the Sabbath….completing 3 days and nights. The stone was rolled away.
Again If we are not to believe scripture that quotes Jesus THEN WHAT ARE WE TO BELIEVE.
Was Jesus resurrected after the Sabbath BUT before the first day?
Jesus LIVES! He HAS risen! He IS the first Born! Because HE did rise from the dead HE lives in our hearts WE should NOT need a sign.
Still HE said three days and three nights WOULD BE THE SIGN FOR THE EVIL AND THE ADULTEROUS GENERATION.

Y'shua was raised from the grave on the weekly Sabbath! That is the absolute only way that Scripture agrees with itself. His assention to His Father to be “restored” as the First Fruit offering did occur on the first day of the week ALSO according to Scripture. He was in the tomb EXACTLY 72 hours.
He was in the tomb exactly 3 days and 3 nights. That is all I have to say.

Laurel I don't agree with you to often, but this time I do agree with you. That is the way I have seen it for some time now. I also belief that it is a sign for this generation in todays world.Peace and :ove Mrs.

The more I think about it Laurel has a point. He could have fulfilled the “Wave Sheaf” offering by being resurrected on the Sabbath and ascending to the Father on the first day.
Did HE have to be resurrected on the first day to fulfill the “Wave Sheaf Offering”?
However scripture says after the Sabbath…the end of the Sabbath.Mat 28:1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.
Mat 28:2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.The first day of the week started Saturday NIGHT. Mary went to the tomb early in the morning on the first day of the week.
In the “end of the Sabbath” there was an earthquake and the angel rolled away the stone.
Of course I'm NOT saying that HE was not in the tomb three days and three nights that would be totally against scripture!
Did Jesus have to be in the tomb “THROUGH” the Sabbath in order for it be the FULL three days and nights?
He died and was buried Before OR at sunset Wednesday.
Wednesday through Friday night is three nights.
Thursday “Through” Saturday is three days. Then scripture says “in the end” of the Sabbath the stone was rolled away.
But as I say Laurel has a valid point He did not have to be raised on the first day to fulfill the “Wave Sheaf Offering” …The first fruits.
Still scripture says it was the end of the Sabbath when the stone was rolled away, Mat. 28:1-2.
After the Sabbath. After He was resurrected. The stone was rolled away.
It's good to seek the truth BUT WHAT MATTERS IS THE KEEPING OF GOD'S COMMANDMENTS AND HAVE THE TESTIMONY OF JESUS. Rev 12:17; 14:12
The three days and nights was a sign. If we follow scripture and keep God's commandments and faith in Jesus then we don't need a sign. Three days and three nights is just a matter of truth and the lie of the harlot.
God bless,
Ken

You are almost there buddy!Look, He was placed in the tomb just before sunset on a Wed. Wed night 1. Add two more nights to wed. and He completes three nights on Friday.
Days: The first day period was Thursday. Add two more days to that and He completes three days at the end of the seventh day Sabbath. (To the very second He was put IN the tomb.)
Now here we are at the end of the Sabbath, it is beginning to get dark. It is now very early on the first day of the week which begins at dark.
So we have YHWH's Words made complete through Y'shua!!! Three days and three night as Jonah was in the belly of the whale.
Now on the first day of the week is the Feast of First Fruits. It is a Sabbath, some work is allowed, but not the labor that earns a paycheck. This Sabbath always occurs on the first day after the weekly Sabbath after First day of Unleavened Bread. This day is First Fruits.
Y'shua also made complete this Feast. He is the First Fruits of them who died and were restored to everlasting life.
All of this according to Scripture. Not a detail was left out. He completed His works of all the Spring Feasts, according to Scripture.
May YHWH our ELohim bless every single person who reads, understands, and keeps His Passover. Thank you Father for your Word.
Love in Messiah Y'shua and YHWH our ELohim,
LaurelDecember 26, 2007 at 7:38 pm#76146LaurelParticipantNot only were there 2 Sabbaths, there was ALSO 2 resurections so to speak. First He was raised from the tomb, and second, He assended to our Father to be “restored”.
Nothing is a mystery if you hear the Word of YHWH our Elohim. through following His Son. He is the light and the life. He is the Shepherd. His sheep hear His voice and follow Him. I am so grateful He has sent His Son for me to follow. Now I see!!! I once was blind, but the Spirit descerns all things.
December 26, 2007 at 7:50 pm#76147LaurelParticipantWhere oh where is WJ at a time like this?
Can you “see” now WJ?
I truly hope that you do.
I'm still here, and He is calling His sheep till the bitter-sweet end.

But why doe scripture say “in the end of the Sabbath the stone was rolled away”?I KNOW Jesus is the Messiah! And because HE said so HE was in the tomb three days and three nights.
Did the Sabbath have to end to complete the three day part?
I agree He did not have to be resurrected on the first day to fulfill the Wave Sheaf offering. But only ascend to the Father on the first day.
IF indeed He was resurrected on the first day it doesn't change the forth commandment anymore than Pentecost did!
It's just that the other gospels do raise questions about which day He was resurrected.
Mat 28:1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.
Mat 28:2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.Are the above scriptures saying that at the end of the Sabbath the stone was rolled away?
All the gospels differ in description of all things but the substance remains. It makes NO difference to me if Jesus was in the tomb only two days and nights BUT HE IS QUOTED AS SAYING THREE DAYS AND NIGHTS. So that's NO problem! Actually which day is NO problem as long as it was three days and three nights AND then only because HE said that's how long He would be in the heart of the earth.
I DON'T NEED A SIGN!
It's just a matter of the truth. It doesn't change which day is God's Sabbath day.
Keep HIS commandments and faith in Jesus!
God bless you Laurel,
Ken

First question… Does it matter when the stone was rolled away, as long as it was after the Sabbath? The stone was not rolled away when He came out. He passed through the stone. Why do you suppose they did not recognise Him at first and that He could not be touched?Second question… The Sabbath time of day of His resurrection from the tomb had to be the “exact” time relative to the exact time He was put in the tomb. Do you believe Scripture can be fulfilled if it were not exact?
Just as the Passover and Unleavened Bread were fulfilled by Messiah, the First Fruits offering must also be fulfilled to the very exact Way it was written in the OT. So He must be “restored” as the first fruit offering on the first day after the weekly Sabbath following Unleavened Bread. This “always” falls on the first day of the week.
Not only do we have the 2 Sabbaths to overcome, but we have the resurrection and the assention when He was restored, to overcome also. I think the KJV used the word “ressurection” in both cases, which only confuses the “unlearned” of the OT Scriptures.
