Sumer is one of the first civilizations in the world existing alongside Ancient Egypt and the Indus Valley.
Located in Mesopotamia (between the rivers) it was bordered by the mighty Tigris and Euphrates rivers. The area was fertile and farming and irrigation slowly led to cities with sophisticated infrastructure as early as c. 3500 BC.
Known as the first civilization, it was here that writing, mathematics, and the wheel were invented. Cities here included Uruk the world’s largest city at the time and the city if Ur, the birthplace of Abraham.
