True…but there was not a seperation of the two in this case because Jonah did not die…in his eyes..he (jonah) was as good as dead (his seeming predicament)…but he was not…his body did not die..again…i say study the hebrew…and compare the language in Jonah to the scriptures i quoted in psalms and job

    Hi TK,
    True.
The body is expected to be stinking in 4 days [Lazarus]but Jonah was raised to life in his own body in 3.
Healthy folk do not go to Sheol.

    Hi DK,
When the spirit leaves the person is dead.[Lk8. ecc 12, Jas2]
The waiting place of the soul is sheol.

Psalm 116:3 says, “The sorrows of death compassed me, and the pains of Sheol got hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow.” Also, “For great [is] thy mercy toward me: and thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest Sheol.( Psalm 86:13)

Sorry for the multiple posts but i can't edit

    Hi DK,
Surely these are the prophecies about the Son of God whom the gates of Sheol could not hold.

    Hi BD,
No he died and went to Sheol.

    Jonah 2
1Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish's belly,

2And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.

The fact is Jonah was alive the entire time. When the fish spit him out of his mouth do you think suddenly he was revived from death? No, he was alive the entire time and he prayed to God for his salvation and God delivered Jonah from death just as he did with Jesus but most don't know.

    Hi BD,
    So you say,
Do you know of any others[Apart from King Jesus] who have been to hades and back without dying?

So you admit that Jesus didn't die?

    Hi BD,
He was as dead as any man can be when his own human spirit left him.[Mt 27]
Yet alive in the Spirit of God he visited the prisoners.[1Peter3]

DB……….Jesus himself said he was dead, and was brought back to life. If he did not really die then Jesus lied when He said he was dead. “the dead know nothing in the day they die their thoughts parish. Jesus was as dead as dead could be, and it was GOD the father who raised him from that dead state. Jesus did not raise himself , how could he if he were truly dead. IMO

Then why do certain scriptures say that he raised himself from the dead?

    John 10:16-18 (King James Version)

17Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.

18No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father

Now I agree that in death he would not be able to take up his life again so what did he mean?

How could he take up his life again?

he said NO MAn TAKETH it FROM ME

    That sounds like

HE WAS NOT KILLED or CRUCIFIED

    Hi BD,
Everything sounds like that to you because you cannot accept his death.

His death does not mean more to me than his life but to you his death means everything and his life is little more than a footnote?

    Is that right?

    Hi BD,
He died. Scripture says so and are there other better sources?

To you he had to be KILLED and TORTURED otherwise he doesn't mean anything to you? No salvation?

    Hi BD,
Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom.
But he left here like that perhaps to be clothed from above as we hope to be[1Cor15]

In the bible, Jesus states that he was dead and is alive forever more.

    Quote
    Rev 1:12 And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;
Rev 1:13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks [one] like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.
Rev 1:17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:
Rev 1:18 I [am] he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

    Love in Christ,

    Luke 17 (King James Version)

20And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:

21Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

Apparently Jesus is saying that FLESH and BLOOD can inherit the KINGDOM of GOD.

Jesus ATE honey comb and fish because he was hungry. The Angels said that Jesus would be returning the same way they saw him leave FLESH and BONE.

Paul several years later says Christ came as a Spirit although Jesus clearly said:

    Matthew 24:23-25 (King James Version)

23Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.

    But you did believe it.
