I am wondering if anyone has a besetting sin , that they have tried and failed to overcome
If so has it produced a sense of guilt and perhaps a feeling of alienation with God
I struggle with one particular sin, and it has made me feel guilty. and raised a question in my mind, How can I a believer still want to do this sin
It would be a help to me to see if anyone else feels like meNovember 22, 2012 at 11:44 am#3213222beseeParticipantKeep yourself away from the temptation unless you can control yourself, depending on the situation.

I had a sin that I struggled with for nearly 25 years. I did everything within my power to stop but it was always a viscous cycle that would leave me despondent and ashamed. Then I believe God showed me I was trusting in my ability instead of what the Father did through His Son.I still have an occasional struggle but now I cling to the message about Jesus and believing it I turn to God continuing to trust in the Father's grace, I do not try to complete it by my own power. My struggle now is based on love and gratitude not to achieve “an acceptable” level of righteousness.
Hope this helps – Wm

What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it never be!November 22, 2012 at 4:04 pm#321348GuncherParticipantThank you ,it is of help to know that someone else has been along the same road
Thanks also for the advice.November 22, 2012 at 4:17 pm#321350davidParticipantEveryone sins. Everyone fails. As long as you are still troubled by it, or trying to work on it, then you are fighting the fight. If you were to just call quits and give in and say I can't fight it, that would be different.

You know the story about the Pharisee and the tax collector and they both went up to pray and “one prayed thus to HIMSELF” “'God, I thank you, that I am not like the others” (self righteous – and not seeing what they do wrong) and the other one, the tax collector, beat himself up and stood far away and could not even lift his eyes up to heaven and thus said “Lord have mercy on me a sinner”
So which one went away justified?
“Everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
Gruncher, I KNOW that sin separates us from God.
Being convicted of sin must be a good thing it is the Holy Spirit which convicts us.
I believe that once we acknowledge that we are sinners and we repent, then it takes us time to get back to what we once knew. Perhaps it is a testing time to see if we can stop sinning.Another thing which happens is that we are consumed with life issues and we feel like giving up.
So let us not give up.November 25, 2012 at 9:33 pm#321924GeneBalthropParticipantQuote (Guncher @ Nov. 22 2012,21:22) I am wondering if anyone has a besetting sin , that they have tried and failed to overcome

Guncher………We all have sin the easily beset us at times, even the Apostle Paul did. He said the good that i would do that i don't do but the evil which would not do that i do O wretched Man that I am, who can deliver me from this body of death, he thanked God that through Jesus he would be deliverer, so can we also. and also remember where he said , that with His mind he served the laws of God but with his body that which was evil, and then said it was no longer him that was doing it, but sin that dwelt in his body doing it. So it becomes true with patience posses you your souls.peace and love to you and yours………………………………gene

Just because you have tried and failed to overcome does not mean that you should succumb to defeat. The scripture states:
“Resist the devil, and he will flee from you”, and so, if you tried and were overcome by temptation, get up and try again, but as Christians, we should hate anything that we do that may hurt our Lord.Love in Christ,
