Hi,
This subject has come up from Rev 2.
Here is some info from wikipedia. The Nicolaitanes or Nicolaitans were a group of people mentioned twice in the book of Revelation in the New Testament. The church at Ephesus (Rev. 2:6) is commended for hating the “deeds” of the Nicolaitanes, and the church of Pergamos is blamed for having them who hold their “doctrines” (15). They were seemingly a class of professing Christians, who sought to introduce into the church a false freedom or licentiousness, thus abusing Paul's doctrine of grace (comp. 2 Pet. 2:15, 16, 19) or engaging in antinomianism, and were probably identical with those who held the “doctrine of Baalam” mentioned in Rev. 2:14. Baalam caused the Israelites to sin by inciting them to eat meat sacrificed to idols and to fornicate (Num. 25:1-2), two of the four restrictions placed upon Gentile converts to Christianity by the Council of Jerusalem (Acts 15:29).
Several of the early church fathers, including Irenaeus, Epiphanius, and Theodorit mentioned this group, which began to grow rapidly in the 2nd century. According to their writings, the sect were followers of Nicholas, one of the Seven Deacons chosen to lead the early Church in Jerusalem. The Nicolaitans maintained that there must be a religious hierarchy to control the spiritual development of the common people; it is believed they were trying to set themselves up as priests in a two-class system – one that would give them absolute control over the laity (common people), who would be completely dependent upon them for all spiritual knowledge, guidance, and access to God.
Like other followers of the Gnostic traditions, the Nicolaitanes sought hidden spiritual knowledge through mystical experiences. They believed that this knowledge alone was perfectly sufficient for salvation. They also taught that man's spiritual and physical natures are two completely separate things. This philosophy implied that they were free to commit sexual immorality and to overindulge themselves in any and every way. To demonstrate their convictions, the Nicolaitanes deliberately made lewdness and immoral behavior a distinguishing characteristic of their lifestyle.

Hi Nick:Thanks for this information. I did not know this much about them. What I do know is the the word Nicolaitans means “destruction of people”.
Therefore, I would understand that their doctrines did just that, destroyed people.
God Bless

Rev2
13I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan's seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth.14But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.
15So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes, which thing I hate.
16Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.
We dare not tolerate what God does not.
He does not tolerate false doctrine among His people.August 17, 2008 at 7:50 pm#101900Not3in1ParticipantThe problem is, Nick, some folks go beyond what the word says is not tolerated to include their personal additions of peculiar doctrines. What of that?
Thanks,

So why should we trust these so called early church fathers who may in their own right be false teachers.

The particular false doctrine is not relevant as a true disciple of Christ will hate all false doctrines and those who do not will be rebuked by their brothers for taking part in such evil.

It is all about learning here.
Matthew 10:16
Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.March 2, 2009 at 5:35 pm#123854GeneBalthropParticipantNick……….One thing you forgot to mention is that the town of Pergamos was a town where nearly all the pagan Idols were manufactured, the Caesars were considered to be man gods, and had their statues made their, statue manufacturing was the main thing they did there for the whole world. So we can see why God Hated what they did and taught, That is why i believe He said, where Satan's seat is. It was the seat of Idol building, and we know GOD Hated that. I believe this had an effect on the Church there also. But the overall point is Jesus and GOD, did not hate the people themselves, but their deeds, and that the important thing to remember. IMO

NickLets go to worldly men to find out what God mean't shall we?
Or shall we just observe the biggest deception of all time – xmas? Lets ignore that that there is a St Nicolas, who goes by many names especially “Father Christmas” where I live, and let's ignore the fact that it is a pagan celebration, every single aspect of it, from long before the days of Christ and lets teach our children to leave out a biscuit or a glass of milk as an offering, and lets all bow down in front of the tree when opening presents.
Then lets all pretend that we worship God in spirit and in truth, and judge all our brothers on spiritual matters. No one is forcing you to give up your beloved celebration, that is your choice,
just like no one can force you not to take the mark of the beast,
that also will be your choice,
No one is forcing any one to do anything,
but all must be informed, so they can ponder on it, and examine themselves, how far they are willing to go for the Lord and how much they are prepared to sacrifice.
That's why many are luke-warm.April 14, 2014 at 6:21 pm#377931NickHassanParticipantHi J42,
My beloved celebration?
You misjudge from ignorance. So where is the evidence for what you say?
