Isaiah 34:14
Complete Jewish Bible (CJB)14 Wildcats and hyenas will meet there;
and billy-goats call to each other;
Lilit [the night monster] will lurk there
and find herself a place to rest.The demeoness Lilith is only mentioned once in Scripture where she is referred to as a she. The middle age corrupted her story and made her the first and ex-wife of Adam. Originally Lilith was a kind of winged demons of Babylonia with more than one member and Isaiah neither contradicts or confirms that idea.
The AKJV translate her well known name to screech owl for whatever reason they have. It at the same time translates what others translate as billy goats to satyrs, which are another Hebrew demon.

The precise meaning of לִּילִית (lilit) is unclear, though in this context the word certainly refers to some type of wild animal or bird. The word appears to be related to לַיְלָה (laylah, “night”). Some interpret it as the name of a female night demon, on the basis of an apparent Akkadian cognate used as the name of a demon. Later Jewish legends also identified Lilith as a demon. Cf. NRSV “Lilith.”

Hi Mike,The KJV words it as a satyr. It is also a butterfly.
Isaiah 34:14 The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the wild beasts of the island, and the satyr shall cry to his fellow; the screech owl also shall rest there, and find for herself a place of rest.
Isaiah 34:15 There shall the great owl make her nest, and lay, and hatch, and gather under her shadow: there shall the vultures also be gathered, every one with her mate.
Isaiah 34:16 Seek ye “OUT OF THE BOOK OF THE LORD”, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them.
Looks like the Lord is speaking of animals dwelling in a place that is no longer inhabited by humans. What is this place?
It has palaces overgrown with thorns, a habitation of dragons, and a court for owls. (Isaiah 34:13)From generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever.
(Isaiah 34:10)But Kerwin has missed the meaning of this prophecy, which is the real message. Something is happening here. All should read that chapter, and see what they get out of it. Very interesting. Instead Kerwin has picked one word and made a topic about it, ignoring the message we have been given of the future. This is what Wakeup means when he says men are relying on books. Instead everyone is looking up the word Lilit for it's meaning, getting distracted, and not concentrating on the big picture, the actual prophecy.
October 30, 2013 at 11:42 pm#360605journey42ParticipantNo offence Kerwin,
I looked up that word also out of curiosity.
I do happen to know that this place mentioned will have bad spirits there also.
And we should be asking, why? when? how come?We should be seeking the whole message, that's all, and it's good you brought up that chapter.

Then there is these words from Revelations
Revelation 18:2
Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)2 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.

Hi journey,I don't believe Kerwin's intention with this thread was to discuss that actual prophecy. I believe he's testing whether or not “Lilith” was a real female demonic being.
Perhaps you could start a thread on what the prophecy means for those who are interested.

The NET Bible scholars think this is an allusion to Isaiah 13:21 and 34:11.What point would YOU like to make about that verse, Kerwin?

Mike,You are correct. I had heard the lie that she was Adam's first wife who turned into a demon but I did not know that before the time that false teaching started there was a group of demons with a similar name and one member of what appears to be that type of demon is mentioned in Scripture.

Mike,I agree with them.
But I mean, why did you post that particular scripture? What is it you want to ask or tell us about it?November 8, 2013 at 7:23 am#361482kerwinParticipantMike,
I was talking about demons with someone and during my research I came upon this reference. I was surprised as I thought the whole Lilith thing was a complete fabrication. I also had previously stumbled over other demon names that are in the original languages but are translated into regular English names.
I started the thread because talking about things aid me in thinking on them.
November 9, 2013 at 5:32 pm#361575mikeboll64BlockedI understand the “Lilith” verse. But I don't see anything that fits the thread in the second verse. It simply mentions “demons” – which are mentioned in many verses in the scriptures.
Are you just posting scriptures that say “demons”? If not, then what, particularly, are you showing us with the Revelation verse?
I'm confused.

Mike,I quoted the Revelations verse because of its similarity to the Lilith verse. I have also heard that it was said at the time the Scripture were written that demons dwelt in desolate places.
I was thinking of the passages of Luke 11:24-25 and Matthew 12:43-46 but they say arid and speak of the evil spirit not finding rest there.
