To all…..we find in scriptures where they are not exactly the same.
Isa 59:12-13…. For our transgressions are multiplied before thee, and our “sins” testify against us; for our transgressions, are with us; and as for our iniquities we know them; 13, In trangressing and “LYING” against the LORD, and departing away from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, concieving and uttering from the heart words of “FALSEHOOD”.
Does ANYONE NOTICE the differences between a SIN and an INIQUITY? More to come.

Is it a iniquity or an iniquity? let’s all be more nitpicky or gnitpicky? but let me guess-our iniquities we know-those bad things we know we did while our sins are those which we may not be so aware of. Iniquities=mortal sins,sins=venial sins. Father forgive me for I know not what I do.
But synonyms are used in the Hebrew prose and some idiots who like to strain at gnats also like to use them to condemn or draw silly conclusions.

You are probably correct that one is sins of intention while the other is sins due to lack of knowledge.
Sometimes words are repeated for emphasis.
To all, more help…..1 Sam 15:23…..For rebellion is like the sin of witchcraft, and “STUBBORNNESS” IS LIKE INIQUITY AND IDOLATRY. So IN WHAT WAY IS INIQUITY LIKE “STUBBORNNESS” ? A stubborn person will not repent, they believe the lie they hang on to, they are under a delusion about what they are holding on to is right when in fact they are wrong, iniquity is not the sin it is the cause of sin, sin seems to be the result of the iniquity.
Samuel was showing king Saul his sin and his iniquity, because he did not obey GOD , BUT SAUL WAS DENYING HE DISOBEDIENCE to GOD, AND MAINTAINED WHAT HE DID WAS RIGHT AND THAT HE WAS OBEYING GOD. He was being stubborn and beliving a lie about what he had done.
An iniquity is can take on the form of a person thinking they are doing right when in fact that are wrong. Sin is the “ACT” WHILE AN INIQUITY IS THE “CAUSE” OF THE ACT. THIS IS THE WAY I SEE IT.

To whomever is concerned,
The obvious difference is that sin when translated from chata’ means to miss and iniquity when translated from iniquity means perversity. That leads me to hypothesize inequities are transgression such as adultery and homosexuality where the penalty is death or possibly any punishment and sins are those with no penalty under the Law of Moses. As far as I can tell they are mostly synonyms under the new covenant though a person guilty of an inequity can be kicked if they fail to show repentance.

To all….. like in GENESIS, the iniquity was a lie induced by Satan, the act was eating the forbidden fruit, the sin was the desobedience to GOD by breaking one of the commandments, “YOU SHALL HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER”, GOD wax their FATHER. “THOU SHALT LOVE THE LORD THY GOD WITH “ALL” THY HEART AND ALL THY MIGHT.”
