That's simply what the word means.  And it's what is meant in the creed. The apostolic creed is not referring to the Catholic Church of today with popes and Mary worship and such.  It is referring to the UNIVERSAL Church of God headed up by His Christ.

It thus says nothing explicitly about the divinity of either Jesus or of the Holy Spirit. This makes it acceptable to many Arians and Unitarians. In other words Irene, when the Apostles supposedly all contributed to this creed, there was no such thing as the Roman Catholic Church.  All the unscriptural baggage they brought to the word of God was added by men at a later date.

When it was first used, “catholic” simply meant “universal”.  Remember the disciples were supposed to preach the good news to everyone on earth?  And the real Church of God is now really universal, for there are true believers everywhere, right?

Does this help?  I think you are getting stuck on the word “catholic”.  Replace it with “universal” and then see if there's anything wrong with the creed.

You are never a “pain” to me, but instead a very big help many times.

Mark 16:15 NIV
He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.

Matthew 28 NIV
19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

These disciples are the “universal” church.  We are the body of Christ.  We are the true believers.  We are the “catholic” church spoken of in the Apostle's Creed.

Pierre, search the word “church” in the NT. This “church” that Paul, Peter, Luke and the others write about is the same “catholic church” mentioned in the creed.

I agree with it.. IMO it was made because of all the twist and turns and intrepretations coming from people distorting the basic facts stated. Not only do I agree with it, I think it was a smart thing for the church to do.

i do not agree with it,the reasons are they are not expressing the all truth,

many questions remain to be answered ,and will not be because of that creed,

the church now controls your thinking and how it has to be interpreted,

do you understand ??
