Quote (Baker @ Nov. 15 2010,16:37) Mike! It is not what the Catholic Church stands for that it is a Universal Church. It is what they do. First of all they worship and pray to Maria. Maria is on the same level to them, as V=Christ is.
Hi Irene,From Dictionary.com:
World English Dictionary
catholic (ˈkæθəlɪk, ˈkæθlɪk)— adj
1. universal; relating to all men; all-inclusiveThat's simply what the word means. And it's what is meant in the creed. The apostolic creed is not referring to the Catholic Church of today with popes and Mary worship and such. It is referring to the UNIVERSAL Church of God headed up by His Christ.
From Wikipedia:
The Apostles' Creed (Latin: Symbolum Apostolorum or Symbolum Apostolicum), sometimes titled Symbol of the Apostles, is an early statement of Christian belief, a creed or “symbol”.[1] It is widely used by a number of Christian denominations for both liturgical and catechetical purposes, most visibly by liturgical Churches of Western tradition, including the Latin Rite of the Catholic Church, Lutheranism, the Anglican Communion, and Western Orthodoxy. It is also used by Presbyterians, Methodists, and Congregationalists.The name of the Creed comes from the probably fifth-century legend that, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit after Pentecost, each of the Twelve Apostles dictated part of it.[2] It is traditionally divided into twelve articles.
Because of its early origin, it does not address some Christological issues defined in the later Nicene and other Christian Creeds. It thus says nothing explicitly about the divinity of either Jesus or of the Holy Spirit. This makes it acceptable to many Arians and Unitarians. Nor does it address many other theological questions that became objects of dispute centuries later.
In other words Irene, when the Apostles supposedly all contributed to this creed, there was no such thing as the Roman Catholic Church. All the unscriptural baggage they brought to the word of God was added by men at a later date.
When it was first used, “catholic” simply meant “universal”. Remember the disciples were supposed to preach the good news to everyone on earth? And the real Church of God is now really universal, for there are true believers everywhere, right?
Does this help? I think you are getting stuck on the word “catholic”. Replace it with “universal” and then see if there's anything wrong with the creed.

Christ +144000= universal church ??
why universal?
would she be not only earthly ??Pierre
Hi Pierre,You are never a “pain” to me, but instead a very big help many times.
Mark 16:15 NIV
He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.Matthew 28 NIV
19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”These disciples are the “universal” church. We are the body of Christ. We are the true believers. We are the “catholic” church spoken of in the Apostle's Creed.
Pierre, search the word “church” in the NT. This “church” that Paul, Peter, Luke and the others write about is the same “catholic church” mentioned in the creed.

Marki do not agree with it,the reasons are they are not expressing the all truth,
many questions remain to be answered ,and will not be because of that creed,
the church now controls your thinking and how it has to be interpreted,
do you understand ??
scriptures can now be void.in a way.Pierre

Eph 4:10-17
10 He who descended is Himself also He who ascended far above all the heavens, so that He might fill all things.)
11 And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers,
12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ;
13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.
14 As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming;
15 but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ,
16 from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.
The Christian's Walk 17 So this I say, and affirm together
