I said what if we DO know the answer and the answer is not a yes or a no? We can’t say we don’t know because we do know. That’s a forced misstatement.
Okay. If someone asks a question like: “How many commandments are there”, then that seems like a fair question that cannot be answered with a yes / no response so giving your answer is good. You should answer that question. If a question is deemed inappropriate, then you can take that up with the Admin before answering.
But if you think about it, if someone avoided answering that question, you could frame it like: Are there exactly 10 commandments? If you got a no, then you could ask: Are there 11… Until you get their answer. That would be the long way about that particular question, but in the least, a person should be able to answer, yes, no, or I don’t know. If you can frame a question so as to eliminate the need to ask other questions, then do so. But if the recipient is stubborn, then you can resort to yes/no questioning.
February 25, 2016 at 9:26 am#809618ProclaimerParticipantBut let your statement be, ‘Yes, yes ‘ or ‘No, no’; anything beyond these is of evil.”
I have adopted the yes / no approach for the Hot Seat. I realise that the Hot Seat is not in the Bible. This was done to rid of the devil in the details practice due to the lack of honesty by some members.
February 25, 2016 at 9:31 am#809620ProclaimerParticipantRemember that I am subject as a member to the same rules here. And if you put someone on the Hot Seat, then the other person(s) can in turn ask you questions and you are subject to the same rules in the discussion. No one has an advantage here.

Hi T8,
What if the question is:
“Is the spirit of Christ God?”Would this question be considered a valid y/n question, or should I ask Admin?

The Pharisees would love your literal and legalistic Hotseat.
No way Jesus Christ would satisfy your demands.

Hi Nick,
When the Pharisees ask Christ if he was the Messiah, he replied in the affirmative (ref. Mark 14:62).

Ed JFebruary 25, 2016 at 1:17 pm#809633kerwinParticipantEd,
He did answer in the affirmative that time and then he went beyond that.
Matthew 5:37King James Version (KJV)
37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.
February 25, 2016 at 1:23 pm#809634kerwinParticipantEd,
I quoted from Matthew in order to reveal the danger of a literal interpretation.
Actually t8 quoted it out of context and it has to do with swearing or promising.
Matthew 5:36-37Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black. 37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.
That is why we have to be careful about handling the truth.
February 25, 2016 at 1:50 pm#809636Ed JParticipantHi Kerwin,
How do Jesus’ words judge in the last day?
“He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him:
the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.” (John 12:48)February 25, 2016 at 9:17 pm#809665kerwinParticipantEd.
Hi Kerwin,
If questions are repeatedly avoided, and the one questioned
gives instead unsolicited speeches, what is the alternative?I can only speak of what I have seen and that is that some ask for an answer after I have already given that answer more that once. It may be be they think my answers are speeches.
I have also witnessed almost everyone avoid questions. I either bring them up again or let it lay. It is possible they are being pushed into the irrationality zone or it may be they just missed them or have not come up with an answer yet.
I prefer explanations though not those that are say a lot to cover just a little ground.
I usually read and address those unsolicited speeches.
The best place for yes/no question and true/false ones are on tests where both the one being tested and the one doing the testing agree on the meaning. I have even misinterpreted them in those settings.

Good kerwin. You can put them on the Hot Seat if you need an answer.
Just remember that most do not answer all questions due to time.
But you can get answers to questions you need in order to frame your responses to others. If you do not, then perhaps the question was not that important to begin with.
February 26, 2016 at 11:55 am#809704NickHassanParticipantHi t8,
So keen to toast the bottoms of those who fail your literal tests?
Is that how love works?
February 26, 2016 at 12:04 pm#809706NickHassanParticipantHi t8,
Did Jesus say
“Before Abraham I am.”
YES
he said it and
NO
The Spirit spoke through him.

Yes Nick. A person who loves the truth wants others to be honest and answer questions about their teachings.
Those that love the Truth will love truth.

Yes and no? You are in two minds about it.
There is no contradiction in truth. Contradiction come from a person’s own understanding.
Scripture is true. If it is written, then it is true. Regardless of what you make of it.
February 26, 2016 at 12:36 pm#809709NickHassanParticipantHi t8,
So you really do not love.
Rather you love punishing others?

Scripture can speak to those who have spiritual ears.
Others are satisfied only with what their natural eyes see.
