    jammin,

I agree with Gill that men weren't wont (accustomed) to fearing death from seeing an angel.  But it is stated very clearly in verse 21 that Manoah “realized that it was the angel of the LORD.”  To me that means Manoah thought he might die just from seeing a supernatural representative of Jehovah.  They must be pretty awe-inspiring, judging from scriptural encounters.  Some fell to the ground as dead when they saw an angel of Jehovah.  Others, like John in Revelation, tried bowing down to them to do worship.  So I don't think it's too far of a stretch for Manoah to be worried he might die from the experience.

I agree with the NETNotes information – which I didn't even know was there until today.  And Ed will attest that I thought it should be translated as “a god” long before I read that NETNotes info today.

You can agree with Gill if you want.  But your own conclusion that God is His own angel is baffling the rest of us here it seems.

Y’hoshua went over to him and asked him, “Are you on our side or on the side of our enemies?” 14 “No,” he replied, “but I am the commander of Adonai’s army; I have come just now.” Y’hoshua fell down with his face to the ground and worshipped him, then asked, “What does my lord have to say to his servant?” 15 The commander of Adonai’s army answered Y’hoshua, “Take your sandals off your feet, because the place where you are standing is holy.” And Y’hoshua did so.

I could not possibly answer your question as NET NOTES are not a reliable source compared with the bible.
How could you KNOW anything from such sources?

The NETNotes info just put into black and white from 25 Biblical experts what I've known all along FROM SCRIPTURE, Nick.

Of course the Bible teaches of “lesser gods”, as I've told you over and over again. If Jehovah is the Most High God, and He is the God of other gods, then there can be no conclusion except that these other gods are “lesser gods”.

But you didn't want to believe me, and so I thought it was nice to see what I've already been telling you written by Biblical scholars. :)

It is true that Jesus is definitely an angel of God. And it is my opinion that he was the angel of God who went before the Israelites in the wilderness.

But you need to study more about the Greek word “proskuneo” and the Hebrew word “shachah”. Both words can refer either to the bowing down to anyone (including Abraham and King David) to show reverence……….. OR …………..to the worship of God Almighty or other gods.

Many translations render Joshua 5:14 as “Joshua bowed down to show reverence”. Most translators did not consider the word “shachah” to refer to “God-worship” in that verse.
