Nick you speak as though flames and agony, as if it’s a literal hell of torment. What would a drop of water really do for someone in flames Nick not much , it probably would evaporat before it got to his tongue. There really more to the story. It really would be hard to see this if you believe that man didn’t really died at death and lived on.
But the Word Hades and Shelo doesn’t mean a literal tormenting hell for ever and ever. ” The grave”
God bless.
August 6, 2018 at 1:28 am#833295AnthonyParticipantHi Nick
This is the only time in Christ’s parables that a person’s name is used. Some have imagined that this use of a personal name precludes the story being a parable. But this is hardly true. The name “Lazarus” is a transliteration of the Hebrew “Eleazar” (which means “God has helped”). The name was a common Hebrew word used for eleven different persons in the Old Testament.
When one analyzes the parable, this Eleazar can be identified. He was one who must have had some kind of affinity with Abraham (or the Abrahamic covenant), for the parable places him in Abraham’s bosom after death. But he was probably a Gentile.

this Eleazar can be identified. He was one who must have had some kind of affinity with Abraham (or the Abrahamic covenant), for the parable places him in Abraham’s bosom after death. But he was probably a Gentile. Matt 15
25 Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, help me!”
26 But He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the littledogs.”
27 And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”
28 Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour.
The phrase was typical of Gentile identification. Even the phrase “laid at his gate” is reminiscent of the normal one used by Jews to denote the Gentile proselyte “Proselyte of the Gate.” This Eleazar must also have been associated with stewardship because Christ gave the parable precisely for the reason of explaining what represents the true steward.
There was only one Eleazar in the historical part of the Bible that fits the description. He was a person associated with Abraham, he was a Gentile (not an ethnic part of the Abrahamic family), and a steward. He was Eleazar of Damascus, the chief steward of Abraham.
15 After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, [a]your exceedingly great reward.”
2 But Abram said, “Lord God, what will You give me, seeing I [b]go childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?” 3 Then Abram said, “Look, You have given me no offspring; indeed one[c] born in my house is my heir!”
4 And behold, the word of the Lord came to him, saying, “This one shall not be your heir, but one who will come from your own body shall be your heir.” 5 Then He brought him outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.”
Elieazer = Lazerus

August 6, 2018 at 1:56 am#833297GeneBalthropParticipantEdj…I know the kingdom of God is within a person, “for the kingdom of God comes without observation, it is within you”, Jesus said, i am not a novice. Jesus said the kingdom of God has come near you, not that it had already come, i was talking about the literal kingdom that JESUS and the saints will bring to this world at the return of Jesus.
I WAS REFERING TO THE VISION, Jesus showed to Peter, James, and John on the mount of tranfiguration.
Nick was using that to shore up his teaching that people are alive after they die, which i disagree with. For several reasons as i have already mentioned several times in this thread. I try to show that it is crucial that we are actually resurested from the dead as Jesus was, to be with and rule with him in the future kingdom to come on this whole earth.
But please don’t get me wrong i do respect Nick, he does bring out some very good points, i just see this death thing different then he does.
Peace and love to you and yours. ….gene
August 6, 2018 at 2:14 am#833298GeneBalthropParticipantAnthony…I have heard that many years ago, now that you have mentioned it, it comes back to me, yes it does fit the parable brother. Abraham’s servant Elasar had no inheritance with Abraham but was very faithful to him. Good form Anthony.
Peace and love to you and yours. ….gene
August 6, 2018 at 2:19 am#833299AnthonyParticipantNick this much h much more.
I think you can figure it out.
Hades=grave and scripture makes it very clear when a person die’s All of Him is dead to the resurrection.
You been going over all this with Gene and Jodi but you don’t believe that. what they are telling you is truth. think about it and pray. Study workout pray is not good.
There for the story about Lazerus and the rich man must be not taken literal, see that this couldn’t even happen to the resurrection, which is future, Nick it a reparsantion of a spiritual truth. God bless.
August 6, 2018 at 2:33 am#833300AnthonyParticipantYes Gene you might say ever step Elieazer took to find Isaac a bride He was one step closer to dis inheritance from all that Abraham had which was alot, but faithfull.
In type Lazerus became a begger a Gentile at that, the crumbs of the table as a dog would = a Gentle God bless Gene

August 6, 2018 at 5:53 am#833306NickHassanParticipantHi Anthony,
Jesus Christ was resurrected by the Spirit of Life in him.
The Spirit was given in the days of his flesh and he is alive and cannot die.
If you have been anointed with the same Spirit that life dwells in you to raise you too.
August 6, 2018 at 5:59 am#833307NickHassanParticipantHi Anthony,
Parables use commonly known simple visual images to teach those whose minds have become unspiritual.
They are full of truth and offer nothing of falsehood.
August 6, 2018 at 6:20 am#833309NickHassanParticipantHi Anthony,
Is your source the ASK site?
August 6, 2018 at 6:54 am#833311NickHassanParticipantHi Anthony,
Gene and Jodi are quite limited in their appreciation of some spiritual things, like us all.
The Sadducees also rejected much of the truth and Pharisees suffered other forms of blindness
Acts 23.6
But perceiving that one group were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, Paul began crying out in the Council.
‘Brethren I am a Pharisee, a son of Pharisees; I am on trial for the hope and resurrection of the dead!’
As he said this, there occurred a dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and the assembly was
divided. For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, nor an angel, nor a spirit, but the Pharisees
acknowledge them all. And there occurred a great uproar; and some of the scribes of the Pharisee party
stood up and began to argue heatedly, saying
’We find nothing wrong with this man; suppose a spirit or an angel has spoken to him?’

The Rich Man was an actual son of Abraham. Christ had him calling Abraham his “father” (Luke 16:24) and Abraham acknowledged him as “son” (verse 25). Such sonship made the Rich Man a legal possessor of Abraham’s inheritance. Indeed, the Rich Man had all the physical blessings promised to Abraham’s seed. He wore purple, the symbol of kingship, a sign that the Davidic or Messianic Kingdom was his. He wore linen, the symbol of priesthood, showing that God’s ordained priests and the Temple were his. Who was this Rich Man who possessed these blessings while living on the earth?
The Israelite tribe that finally assumed possession of both the kingdom and priesthood, and the tribe which became the representative one of all the promises given to Abraham, was Judah. There can not be the slightest doubt of this when the whole parable is analyzed. Remember that Judah had “five brothers.” The Rich Man also had the same (verse 28).
“The sons of Leah; Reuben; Jacob’s firstborn, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun.”Genesis 35:23
“And Leah said … ‘now will my husband be pleased to dwell with me; for I have born him six sons.’”Genesis 30:20
- Judah and the Rich Man each had “five brethren.” Not only that, the five brothers of the parable had in their midst “Moses and the prophets” (verse 29). The people of Judah possessed the “oracles of God” 3 What advantage then has the Jew, or what is the profit of circumcision? 2 Much in every way! Chiefly because to them were committed the [a]oracles of God.(Romans 3:1–2). Though the Rich Man (Judah) had been given the actual inheritance of Abraham’s blessings (both spiritual and physical), Christ was showing that he had been unfaithful with his responsibilities. When the true inheritance was to be given, Judah was in “hades” and “in torment” while Lazarus (Eleazar, the faithful steward) was now in Abraham’s bosom. He was finally received into the “everlasting habitations” V
- 9 and this would only be at the resurrection when Christ returns. But its a parable a spiritual truth. God bless.

August 6, 2018 at 9:18 am#833315NickHassanParticipantHi Anthony,
Your quotes are from the Associates for Scriptural Knowledge site?
August 6, 2018 at 9:28 am#833316NickHassanParticipantHi Anthony,
The ASK teaching on the rich man (Judah) and Lazarus(Eleazar) is very useful.
The current ASK leaders rightly do not accept trinity teaching as of God.
But they profess Universal Salvation and the deification of man.
