We normally do not give out editing rights to those who have been penalised with inappropriate behavour as it is a feature given in trust. However, I am not sure why you are sporting 2 squares as I didn't give them to you. If they were given in error feel free to PM me.
May 20, 2010 at 11:49 pm#191389karmarieParticipantHi. Other sites everyone new or not has edit, is there a reason why not here? are people here that 'non trustworthy'.. edit for each post lasts only a few hours or maybe untill they leave for the day. Then the edit feature for that post has gone.
Also can I please have edit?
May 21, 2010 at 12:13 am#191391AdminKeymasterCorrect. Some are not trustworthy.
Everyone had editing rights once, but one member went through and substantially changed his/her posts and rendered the conversations that he/she was involved in hard to follow and wasted the time of all who posted in those topics. Another member when he/she realised that he/she was losing an argument, changed previous posts on that point, instead of being honest and saying that he/she was wrong. That way it would have been a great lesson for others to learn, but the editing option coupled with pride seems too tempting for some.
My philosophy is “if it can go wrong it will”. That is not negative but a real statement when you are the one who has to fix up other people's abuses. So this is why it is given on a case by case basis when people ask for it.
Normally to get editing rights, you have to have a history here and no penalties or abusive posts, and you have to request it. You also have to be in the members group and if you get editing rights, you then go into the regular members group. Even then, it is still risky to do this because it only takes one person.
I know that some get rather heated in their discussions at times, and in those times, people can do things that they shouldn't do. e.g, deleting all the contents of their previous posts is possible with editing rights.
Now if this was just a social forum then it wouldn't matter too much. But the topics here are important, and deception and deletions are a lot less welcome. Topics are usually structured like debates, so if one member gets up to mischief, then it can ruin a whole topic. And there is a lot for people to learn here and I don't want that jeopardised in any way.
To conclude, this board is about testing that which is true against that which is not. The topics are a lot more serious than a social forum and therefore the content needs greater protection.

maybe you can added, a automatic spell checker or something.or a list of grievances of the user who is chaning things.
like for example at work when i want to change a number in the inventory that i already submitted, It gets a STAR * by what i changed.
than i have to tell them why i changed it.
maybe it should be the post
POST: adfjas*1klfjalsjflaskdj
lafjaslkdjf a alkjdafjlskd *2asklfjslk———————
1: Grammer issue
2: Spelling errorMaybe that would help control the debates better.
At least thats what im going to start doing.

June 23, 2012 at 5:48 pm#303786mikeboll64BlockedHi Gene,
I believe Adam was moved to the Skeptics section because he doesn't truly believe the scriptures are the inspired words of God. As far as I know, he can still post – just not in the Believer's section.
June 24, 2012 at 11:02 am#303890ProclaimerParticipantHe can post in the Skeptics Category and you can engage him there too.

Are you the one dealing with the complaints?I don't admire you at all…very sad, as sad as the old birth right belief…. the public should be notified about coming here. An being discriminated against.
June 24, 2012 at 9:51 pm#303958ProclaimerParticipantCharity, the Forum has two sections. Believers and Skeptics. This is to stop Skeptics attacking all the subjects that Believers want to discuss. And all can join in the Skeptics Area and be as skeptical as they want. So know one is being barred from posting what they want, except those who abuse others or other like behaviour.
We cater for all and we have sections to keep discussions as relevant and as deep as they can get. If we opt for all can post anywhere attitude which is how it use to be, then it ends up that Skeptics just attack all discussions and turn them into a God exist or doesn't exist topic. In that scenario, we might as well have one topic and all can post what ever they want in there.
So no need to be offended. There is a structure in place to help discussions stay on their intended subject.
