    Hi all! I am new here and am sooo impressed by the thoughtfulness and knowledge that I have read here.
    I have a question and was hoping someone could help me.
    What does the title of Christ mean?
    Thanks!

    Greek = Christos {khris-tos’}
    Hebrew = mashiyach {maw-shee’-akh}

    The Hebrew word for Christ is Messiah

    Both mean "anointed" or "anointed one".

    Hope this helps.

    Christ : can equally mean – anointed (one) – anionting – or anointer.

    IMHO

    Hi,
    So Christ is the anointed one.
    We too can have the anointing of the Spirit of Christ.

    1jn 2
    “27But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

    28And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming. “

    None of us is a Christ but we share that Spirit in him.

    Matt 24
    “23Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.

    24For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.”

    Hi Malcolm,

    I have not heard of Christ being the “anointing” or “anointer” before. Could you expound?

    My understanding so far is that it is the Father who anoints, as Jesus himself has been anointed by the spirit of God and we are similarly anointed by God, thru the same spirit because we are in Christ and born of God.

  • 2 Corinthians 2:21 Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, 22 who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.

  • Luke 4:17 And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah.
    And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written:

    18 “The Spirit of YHWH is upon Me,
    Because He has anointed Me
    To preach the gospel to the poor;
    He has sent Me *to heal the brokenhearted,
    To proclaim liberty to the captives
    And recovery of sight to the blind,
    To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
    19 To proclaim the acceptable year of YHWH.”* (Isaiah 61:1-3 )

Hi Cubes,
I too am wondering.
Lk 9
Luke 9:20
He said unto them, But whom say ye that I am? Peter answering said, The Christ of God.”
Acts 2:30
Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;

Hi,
Scripture shows us Messiah and Christ are interchangeable.

John 1:41
He found first his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which translated means Christ).
John 4:25
The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming ( He who is called Christ); when that One comes, He will declare all things to us.

God anointed Christ
Acts 10
” 38How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

We know that Christ is the anointed one. He was anointed by God.God also anoints us in Christ.

2cor 1
“2 Corinthians 1:21
Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and anointed us is God,

One plain fact is that the one who anoints is greater than the one who is anointed.

Heb 7
” 7And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better. “

God does not need to anoint Himself.
God is not Christ.
God is greater than Christ.

1 Corinthians 11:3
But I want you to understand that Christ is the head of every man, and the man is the head of a woman, and God is the head of Christ.

Hi,
Jesus is the Christ of God.
So he is not the God of Whom he is the Christ.

Hi,
1Jn5
” 1Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. “

Why do men prefer to teach Christ is God?

Hi,
Peter knew Jesus.
But when he said he was THE CHRIST, THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD, Jesus knew the Holy Spirit had told him.

Hi,
Rebirth from above is the anointing.
We can be given a share of the anointing given to Christ Jesus.

Hi,
Whenever Christ is mentioned it applies to the anointing Spirit as well as the human vessel.
Once anointed the two -vessel and contents-are one eternally.
The Jordan was the place of anointing
