Miia,
We go to Sheol/Hades after we die and it is divided into two places one is Paradise and one Tartarus. Jesus bases his parable of the rich man and Lazarus there and I do not believe he was supporting a false teaching as some do.
Hi Kerwin.
I don’t know what they are but I do believe in the afterlife between death and the ressurection regardless of what skeptics may say. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. The flesh profits nothing.</div>
March 13, 2015 at 8:26 am#790559kerwinParticipantMiaa,
Sheol is the Jewish name and the Greeks call their version Hades. The similarity is close enough that Sheol is translated to the Koine Greek Hades. It is interesting for me to look up the similarities of teaching but not surprising they exist as the Tower of Babel story teaches us that the humanity was divided by God into different languages.
March 13, 2015 at 10:33 pm#790581MiiaParticipantHI Kerwin.
I don’t know, I haven’t looked into the meaning of those words.
I am guessing perhaps that those who do not know God sleep (don’t know anything) until the resurrection and judgment, whereas those who are the Lord’s are with Him (in spirit) until the second (bodily) resurrection.
One thing skeptics need to bear in mind is that Elijah and Moses appeared with Jesus and spoke with him, and scripture says Matt 22:31. “Haven’t you read in the Scriptures? Long after Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had died, God said, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ He is the God of the living not the dead.”
Obviously, they are living.

Do you think it is wise to selectively use verses to support a dogmatic view?
Should scripture not be free to teach us?
March 17, 2015 at 8:55 am#790730NickHassanParticipantHi Mila,
All who have been led by the Spirit that they were given have become living sons of God.
The Spirit will not leave them and will not die so how could they die?

Many fish are gathered into the net but not all are kept.
March 17, 2015 at 10:51 am#790734NickHassanParticipantHi ED,
Is anyone not welcome?
Are not all called?
Only those given the grace of repentance can come.
March 17, 2015 at 11:04 am#790735NickHassanParticipantHi ED,
Acts 17
“…God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should repent because he has fixed a day in which he will judge the world…”
2Tim 2.25
‘…if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth..”
Acts 11.18
“..God has granted them the repentance that leads to life..”
March 17, 2015 at 1:06 pm#790745NickHassanParticipantHi Ed,
The acts 17 verse shows who are called.
The other two show who are chosen.
March 17, 2015 at 8:29 pm#790755kerwinParticipantmiia,
To be correct their souls are living but souls are the essential self.

Hi Nick,
Do you have any verses that would disqualify or discount the meaning of what I’m suggesting? Or
should I just drop my understanding because it does not line up with your current understanding?___________

Hi Nick,
Yes Nick we are all called to repentance, but not all will willingly repent. Are you
suggesting that God (according to Nick) chooses those who will actually repent?…so much for “Free Will” then

We like to imagine we are in control but God makes it all work in His plan.
Free will is a very loose term
Grace we need.

Those given grace upon grace to become the sons of God owe enormous gratitude to the Loving Father.
Flesh has contributed nothing.

”Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” – JEHOVAH GODHi Nick,
I knew you couldn’t produce any!
March 20, 2015 at 1:38 pm#791165Ed JParticipantHi Nick,
If you cannot produce any evidence to support your view, why should I adopt your view?
March 20, 2015 at 1:51 pm#791168Ed JParticipant……………………….. Few are chosen
“we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem;
whom they slew and hanged on a tree: 40 Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly;
Not to all the people, but unto witnesses *chosen before* of God, EVEN TO US,
who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead. And
he commanded us to preach unto the people, and TO TESTIFY
that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.
To him give *all the prophets* witness,
that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.” (Acts 10:39-43)March 20, 2015 at 1:59 pm#791171Ed JParticipantThe Apostles were “Chosen” as were ALL the Prophets *chosen before* The evidence is quite clear,
you are of course free to reject the evidence as you do have a free will; you do have “free will” right?March 20, 2015 at 2:17 pm#791175NickHassanParticipantHi Ed,
The witnesses were all chosen and commanded to testify and give witness to the works of God.
None of those involved were not chosen.
Grace does all.
