    Hi KW,

So the idioms of English apply equally to the language used by Paul?

Are you capable of deciding what is truth and what is merely idiom?

    Nick,

So the idioms of English apply equally to the language used by Paul?

Our idioms are often influenced by the King James Version editions. In this case I have been told by experts that the the word flesh is used to mean non Spiritual and that a common idiom among the Jews was flesh and blood being used to mean the mortal body.

Craig Blomberg explains, “‘flesh and blood’ was a standard Semantic idiom for frail mortal existence; if Paul were denying the physical nature of the resurrection body he would more probably have used the common idiom, “flesh and bones.”(21)

Nick……..Jesus did use idioms, like when he referenced Herod as a fox, right, we do not believe Herod was an actual fox do we?, I think kerwin has a point brother.

Peace and love to you and yours………………….gene

    Nick,

I learn English from a English instructor though I have also learned some from reading the bible and other things. It is the knowledge that allows me to comprehend the meaning the English words that are written in Scripture. You put a bible written in a foreign language before me and I would not understand it. If you has a woman quote from it in a foreign language I would not understand it.

Idiom is a part of the Hebrew and Greek languages that have been translated to English in order for me to understand. I actually did know it was idiom before I heard the experts opinion on the matter because when you take it literal it introduces inconsistencies to the message that require explanations that are outside Scriptures.

    Hi KW,

You are no expert in the ways of the Spirit.

That is where truth is, not in the wisdom of men.

    Nick,

You do not listen to the Spirit or you would know I was speaking of Paul’s desire to hear five words with upstanding rather than a multitude without.

    Hi KW,
    First believe what is written.

    Nick,

You are not addressing my post as far I can tell though you may be spreading the conversation among three different threads.

1 Corinthians 14:19Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

19 yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.

The translators chose to interpret the word mind.

1 Corinthians 14:19New English Translation (NET Bible)

19 but in the church I want to speak five words with my mind to instruct others, rather than ten thousand words in a tongue.

The translators chose to interpret the word mind.

Thus I point to a Scripture that teach that understanding the language and it use is needful and provide an example of language use where the literal interpretation and the interpretation of intent are different.

I use reason just to gain understand. Just because I understand a message does not mean I believe in it.

    Nick,

I use reasoning to gain understanding of what is said. I choose whether to believe based on the promoting of the Spirit.

    Hi KW,
You are limited by the human mind
You should have the spiritual mind of Christ
