When Jesus said in Luke that He would be in the belly of the earth 3 days and 3 nights as Jonah was in the belly of the fish!!!

I would like to reason that our Lord really did go to hell after he died, but its the definition of hell that matters here. Most people automatically think of hell as the fiery pit where evil people go, but, in actuality, It is likely the hell our Christ went to was Sheol. Sheol is found all throughout the old testament and this is the place all dead go, good or bad. Even David knew this was his final resting place but, certainly, we can trust David will not be judged as unrighteous. Our Christ died, but his resurrection was the breaking of the bonds of Sheol. He beat death so that we might share in his salvation. How wonderful! Thanks be to God!

May God bless you and lead you to Christ,
    Your brother, Anastas

I highly disagree! I didn’t even bother reading it all. Most verses were taken out of context starting from the very first verse.

About this sheol where dead people dwell, try to understand the state of the dead in these verses:

Psalms 6:3-5: “My soul is also sore vexed: but thou, O LORD, how long? Return, O LORD, deliver my soul: oh save me for thy mercies’ sake. For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks?”

Psalms 115:17 “The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence.”

Psalms 146:4 “His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish”

Ecclesiastes 9:5,6  “For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.”
    I guess it’s quite obvious..

So I ask… How did this LIE get started?

It’s all in PUNCTUATION folks! That’s right! Punctuation!
Luke 23:43 “And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.”

Is Luke 23:43 REALLY saying we go to Heaven directly at death?
Jesus is crucified, just before breathing His lat HE tells the thief on the cross he will be with Him in Paradise. Then three days later, Jesus rises from the dead and Mary Magdelene approaches Him in John 20:17 and “Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father:”  Why did Jesus tell the thief in Luke 23:43 that they’re going to Heaven that day, and then three days later tell Mary He hasn’t gone yet?  Some say this proves the Bible contradicts itself. However, the fact of the matter is, many years after the King James Bible was written, punctuation was added to it. The coma in Luke 23:43 is actually mis-placed. It should be placed after the word “today.” If it is left before the word “today,” it appears Jesus is being dishonest either to Mary or the thief on the cross. However, if it is placed correctly after the word “today”, He is now telling them both His truth and no contradiction is assumed. Now read Luke 23:43 with the coma in the correct place…

Luke 23:43 “And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee To day, shalt thou be with me in paradise.”
    (Paradise is hell? Seriously?)

How could have Jesus went to hell if hell didn’t even exist yet?
    When will hell take place?

Revelation 20:9 “And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.”
Hell is going to be here on earth!

When the City of Heaven is about to be placed on the Earth and all the wicked surround it to destroy it. THAT’S when what the Bible calls “The second death” (SEE Rev. 2:11 Rev. 20:6,14 Rev. 21:8) is realized by the wicked. ALL people are merely “asleep” in their graves until one of two things happens.
John 5:29 “And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.”
Email me if you want detailed information on hell.
I hope that fixed it for you. Sabbath Shalom!

If Jesus went to hell to fight the powers of evil? What happened to all those fought? He died for people’s sin yet preached to those who have sinned most but those individuals will remain in the same place….. Seems like big J tried to do too much than could be handled…. #scienceistheway 🙂 xx

In the Bible, Jesus’ parables do not mention names yet Lazarus was mentioned when speaking to the rich man who was in hell. Saying, where I am you cannot come etc. Can this be explained?

mostly clear; then in the end your comment: did you know that hell is not forever. u should ve been more clear and written: hades/gehenna/shoel.
you should add then where will those unrighteous be? they will be destroyed? I feel there is too much evidence that it will be eternal hell for the unrighteous. sad and scary but that s what I gleam from the Word. likewise the righteous will live in eternity.

If it says that Hell is thrown into the Lake of Fire, then Hell cannot be the Lake of Fire. And it also says that the same fire that destroys the wicked is the same fire that burns up the heavens and the earth. After this, a new heaven and earth where there is no suffering or pain and God will wipe away every tear.

No, Jesus Christ did not visit Hell when He died. Please be open minded enough and pray for the Holy Ghost to reveal truth to you as you read this. Thank you and God bless all.

In reference to the statement he said to thief, there’s nothing contradictory. You forgot about the trinity. Jesus is God. God is in heaven. When he says that to that convict he’s talking about God who is also Jesus.

Of course there is no contradiction as I point out, but this has nothing to do with a/the Trinity.

Nice article! Of course hell is no eternal. Gods mercy endures FOREVER. And there are plenty of passages that confirm the salvation and restoration of all things. There is indeed a hell which is men condition of being apart of God; worshiping his own self, doing his own will. Living unsatisfied, searching fir happiness his whole life, but never achieving it… The lake of fire is like a purifier of gold, mentioned so many times in the bible. It takes impurities out, burning then, so all that is left is gold. The same happens with a christian which is baptised with fire, gods fire who burns all of our self will, selfishness, pride, hate, until all that is left is Christ… one day every knee will bow and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.

    God Bless

I like your article, i must say that i dont totally agree with most of it thou since its kinda base moreso on assumption.
The bible says that when a soul/person died they sleep, they knows nothing, they see no heaven or hell until the day of judgement they will know there faith. also yes, there are persons under the earth, the spirits of satan are the only movable force under the earth, this is since everyone one that is dead is sleeping.

Jesus didnt went to hell to get the key of death from satan.
Remember that when Satan was cast out of heaven with his followers he lost all his position and status in heaven but he did have some access with heaven.
(God could have killed him, but he wanted the rest of Angels to see the kind of God he is that gives everyone the choice to love him and not fear him (fear like been afraid of a gunman)
    (Job 1 vs 6)
6.One day the angels[a] came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came with them.
    7. The Lord said to Satan, “Where have you come from?”
Satan answered the Lord, “From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it.”
    8. Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.”

when Jesus died, the devil has lost total access to heaven, the temple was rent as a signal to show that prophecy has fullfilled, everything from the old testament that was leading to the birth and death of Jesus. Including sacrifices of lamb and letting the priest help in the forgiving of your sin, (like what is happening in catholic church now) everything thing that of old in the temple is over. everyone now has individual access through Jesus.
The devil thought he had won, since he uses Jesus own people to kill him. When satan had realize he couldnt alter prophecy he know he is on a loosing streak, he lost the key…
(please note also that Jesus had resurrected multiple people from the dead including Lazarus, so he had the key to begin with)

Remember that the very first resurrection is when Jesus was resurrected he had resurrected all the saved souls and take them to heaven with him, if when we died we go to heaven or hell immediately then there would have been no point to be raised again when God returns.

I could go on and on but i choose not for now, scriptures are not to be interpret literally, its a spiritual thing. the NIV is not a good source, it tries to make the word of God literal so you will miss most of the revealing point from the holy Spirit

    Thank you

The dead went to Hades both good and bad, but they were separated by a huge gulf. When Jesus died, he went to Hades and freed the righteous dead from death. And many of the graves were opened and many of the dead even appeared to the living.

    Matthew 27:51-53
51 And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split. 52 The tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; 53 and coming out of the tombs after His resurrection they entered the holy city and appeared to many.…

Ed: You clearly take a very allegorical approach to the bible and from what i can gather the author of this article has a literal one (with the obvious consideration for literature genre). The Bible is not there as a mental driver to get the wheels turning so one can ponder what they think it means. It is there to communicate a message to all nations and all generations with intent not what they think it means. Jesus spoke of hell more than anyone and he was clearly communicating that it was not a place one wanted to go. God has mercy yes that’s why he sent Jesus. He is also a Just God and he who denies Jesus here will be denied in heaven. “It is appointed unto man once to die and then the Judgement.” There are no second chances. Chose now in this life. You will find much more freedom in taking God Word at face value and not allegorizing it where it is not meant to be an allegory. The lake of fire is the second death. Rev 21:8
