If Jesus is divine, does that make him God?

God’s nature is divine his essence is spirit

God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.

For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.

Divine nature pertaining to Jesus Christ and the children of God

But scripture says that we can share in God’s nature so all the more Jesus Christ who after all has a body now, that we will eventually have. It is written that we will be like him. If Jesus Christ is God because he has divine nature, then why aren’t we God by reason of participating in the same divine nature?

For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form,

Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.

Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

Connecting the dots, most will agree that we are not God and never will we be God. So divine nature doesn’t qualify you as being God himself.

Was Jesus God or a man?

Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

Jesus existing in the form of God doesn’t make him God, rather that his nature is from God. A good explanation of a son of God. We also read that Jesus emptied himself, but of what did he empty himself? Many think it was his foreknowledge and divine nature because he took on flesh or human nature and became a man being born like us. He started life as a baby, grew to a child, then an adult. We do know right now that Jesus is at the right-hand of God in the glory he had with him even before creation itself. So it seems he was with God, came to Earth in an empty state, and is back with God in the glory he had with him before the universe existed.

And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.

Conclusion

Divine nature doesn’t make you God just as having a spirit doesn’t make you God. Yes God is divine, and He is spirit. But angels are spirits and they are not God and we can share in divine nature and we are not God. What we do know is this:

Jesus Christ existed with God before the world began as the Word. While he shared in divine nature with God, he emptied himself and became a man, even a baby who had to learn how to walk and talk like the rest of us. Providing the perfect sacrifice for our sins through his death, he is now with God at his righthand side in the glory he had with him before the world began. Now we who are in the flesh can be born of the Spirit and participate in this divine nature because Christ died for us.

We need to understand that there is a difference between being God who has divine nature and being a son who shares or inherits divine nature. Receiving the divine nature of God is a good description of being a son and chief among the sons of God is the Son of God himself. He reflects the fullness of God’s nature and glory in visible form from the invisible God.

The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

    Who was Jesus sent to?

    Hi BD,

Before his crucifixion to Israel, after his resurrection to the entire world.
Do you find “bible truth” troubling? Muhammad is the false prophet of Rev.13:13

    Hi BD,

Do you find “bible truth” troubling? Muhammad is the false prophet of Rev.13:13

After his resurrection “he” wasn’t sent anywhere, you mean the message about him was spread

also lets take a look at this Rev 13:13 and see what you are understanding here

    Revelation 13:12-14King James Version (KJV)

12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.

13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,

14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.

few questions when have you ever even heard of a Muslim make an image or statue to worship? If you go into a mosque you will see 0 images, just so you know it is completely forbidden to worship any visible “representation” of God so your claim would be impossible with Islam, there are however large erected statues of crucified Jesus and people do worship them

    @t8

I know you hold the vainglorious notion of being persecuted for Jesus.. when in fact every true follower of Christ would run from your teaching, as they would an impostor who has not the Spirit, but teaches according to his own natural wisdom..

Professing to teach truth – you have fallen into false doctrine… denying the very reality of Jesus Christ (foundational truth of the Christian faith), you twist God’s Holy Word to your own confusion… refusing to let go of your man-made deception you continually resist the truth just like those old stiff-necked ancestors before you..

Christ came to destroy the works of the devil, and all those who are His also reject and hate what is false…especially when it concerns the Person of our Lord Jesus Christ Himself…!!!

It is persecution @DavidL. Because you oppose me for believing that the Father is the one true God and that He sent another, his son into the world.

Every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the Glory of God. And we believe that the is the messiah and son of God. But you believe that he is God and that God died. Rather, this God is the God of Jesus and is our God too. He is his Father and our Father. He calls us sons and Jesus calls us brothers.

You persecute me for believing this. Simple as that. Of course I am not bothered by your persecution apart from thinking about your own spiritual state.

Someone somewhere along the way placed a stumbling block in your path and you have never overcome it. All things are possible in Christ. Believe upon him means to believe his own words even if all men are liars in comparison. FOr some reason, you are unable to see clearly. First you need to remove that which hinders your vision.

If the mainstream tells you God is triune and scripture says HE is ONE. Then why believe the mainstream. For wide is the path that the mainstream travel down. Those on that road take comfort in their number. But that road leads to destruction DavidL. The truth is a precious gem that is hard to find, not a common grain of sand.

I guess if you tell yourself that enough t8, you’ll actually start believing it – but is it really true..?

I confront you over your teaching on the trinity – because you’ve got things back to front…your foundation is NOT Scripture but the study of Catholic doctrine..

Scripture must come FIRST (not our own ideas) – our thoughts and beliefs should be molded and established from the Word – not the other way around.

You have formed your own anti-trinity conclusions first, outside of the Bible – NOW you twist and change the meaning of verses to make Scripture fit your beliefs… you can no longer see Scripture in and unbiased way, or simply let it speak for itself.

    Hi Davidl,

Grand statements but you have yet to show where trinity is TAUGHT in the bible.

DavidL, let’s be frank. You are behaving the same way the Pharisees did with Jesus. Did the Pharisees persecute Jesus for his radical teachings? Yes. You are no different. Call it what you want, but you oppose me because I quote and teach from the truth of scripture, that for us there is one God the Father and that this God is the God of Jesus.

I confront you over your teaching on the trinity – because you’ve got things back to front…your foundation is NOT Scripture but the study of Catholic doctrine..

It is you who is backward here. I teach that for us there is one God the Father who is the true God and who sent his son. This is scripture and I have quoted these scriptures many times to no avail.

My study of Catholic Doctrine is not the foundation of my faith, but my rebuttal against you which is the challenge that has been given to you, but where you have demonstrated the traditions of men over the truth in scripture.

I believe that there is one God who sent his son, whom he made both Lord and Christ. You believe that Jesus is part of a triune being, whereas scripture is clear. There is one God and that is the Father. You cannot prove me wrong because I simply am quoting scripture. Unless you can prove scripture is wrong, you have no case just as Satan has no case.

Once day you will confess in truth that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God. Hopefully you will confess this before your deathbed. But either way, you will confess it eventually.

    DavidL, let’s be frank

How about – Let’s be honest..!!

You believe that Jesus is part of a triune being

No – I believe that Jesus is in unity with the Father…

You cannot prove me wrong because I simply am quoting scripture

Wrong – you are twisting Scripture into the context of your false teaching – which actually denies the REALITY of Jesus Christ.

..you are stuck in a theological matrix trying to negotiate Christ on logical terms.

How about – Let’s be honest..!!

To be frank is to be honest about the situation or your opinions.
But being honest DavidL would be great. I welcome it. Honesty would allow much progress.
So let’s be honest about the following to start with.

There is one God the Father right?
Not according to you. To you there is one God the Father, Son, and Spirit.

There is one God who is over all and through all and in all right?
Not according to you. You believe there are three who are God.

    God is one right?
Not according to you. You believe that God is triune, THREE.

God is ONE minus God is THREE = TWO left over persons who cannot be the one true God.

And to confirm that there is one who is the ONE TRUE GOD, here are the words of eternal life that you keep opposing or ignoring:

    John 17:3
Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

How about – Let’s be honest..!!

“The first to plead his case seems right, Until another comes and examines him.” – Proverbs 18:17

Of course you try and maintain an over-all appearance of “honesty”, but when your trinity teaching is examined it becomes painfully obvious that you have grossly misrepresented Scripture – altering every verse that specifically relates to the Deity of Christ, in a way that virtually renders them meaningless.. so they no longer seem to clash with your Unitarian doctrine..

Smudging Scripture to fit your own predefined beliefs..

(beliefs, I might add, that seem to be founded solely on the arguments of others – rather than your own personal relationship to the Word of God)..

To claim honesty in the light of such fraud is really just more basic evidence of your inability to represent truth..!!!

“So the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Ghost is God. And yet they are not three Gods, but one God.”

According to your own post – the trinity doctrine affirms that they are NOT three Gods, but only ONE God..!

So why do you try and confuse the trinity doctrine with your petty logic..?

..if not to make your own cult propaganda seem more valid…!!
