Matthew 13:47-50

Lake Wakatipu Queenstown New Zealand

“Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish.  When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away.  This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous  and throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

    Hi KW,

Those in Christ yet sin or 1jn1.7 would not have been written.

You are trying to apply carnal perfectionist principles to the ways of God.

WHAT John 3;21 SAYS IS UNLESS YOU live by the truth you will never come to the understanding of the truth ,

and so if you have a lie in you you do not live by the truth and so you have no understanding that is what it says ,got it ?

    Nick,

1jn1.7 does not make the point you think it does since only a creation that has stop sinning is in the light as God is in the light.

A creation is only in Christ when it lives by the Spirit.

A Spiritual infant seldom lives by the Spirit while a Spiritual adult always lives by the Spirit. The infant grows by being nourished by the word of God. The adult must continue to eat Spiritual food less they die.

    Terrarica,

John is more explicit that the generic words you are using. When a creation is living by the Spirit they sin not and so are in Christ but when they live by the flesh they sin and so are not in Christ and therefore go and sin no more, even as Jesus told the adulterous woman.

    Hi,

    Rom 6 .7

He who has died is fred from sin.

Does this mean that death brings forgiveness to all?

    No.

Sin which dwells in us leaves our bodies at death.[rom 7.17]

    Nick,

It means death sets us free from slavery to sin because the dead do not sin.

That is why it is also wrote:

Romans 6:17-18Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. 18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

Receiving the Spirit is to receive the gift of freedom from sin but an individual must learn to always live by the Spirit in order to be truly free.

I think both of you are right. We do not continue to sin because we are born of incorruptible seed.
Paul says that when he does sin, it is his old nature and no longer him who sins. He then asks who will deliver him from this body of death.

For us, we either live by the spirit or by the flesh. While we have both, one will dominate. I guess that is the one we choose.
That is, we can be led by both, but one will dominate our life. We will love one more than the other.

    look at this ?

Rev 20:7 When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison
Rev 20:8 and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth—Gog and Magog—to gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore.
Rev 20:9 They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God’s people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and devoured them.
Rev 20:10 And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

    t8,

Paul says that when he does sin, it is his old nature and no longer him who sins. He then asks who will deliver him from this body of death.

He is speaking of his struggles against the bondage of sin under the Law for he also said:

Romans 7:6Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

He is arguing why the new covenant is superior to the covenant of Moses.

    t8,

Your point sounds correct though I do not get it from Romans 7 as our goal is to stop sinning because we live by the spirit at all times and that takes faith.

    Hi KW,

The drive to sin comes from the lusts inside us which give birth to sin  Jas 1 14-15

When the Son sets us free it is from this sin living in us. Rom 7

You do not need to be obsessed with stopping sinning but to seek the freedom the Son offers.

    Hi Nick,

Kerwin is right. 1John 1:8 is about the unrighteous – understanding that ‘THEY’ are a sinner.
1John 1:8 is *NOT* about the righteous being unable to stop sinning, that is religion’s lie.

Religion is a form of godliness, but denys the power thereof:
from such turn away (ref. 2Timothy 3:5-6 & Colossians 2:22)

The power they deny is the power of God that transforms sinners.
I’m glad Kerwin understands this. Ones actions are more important than their beliefs.

“For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh,
God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin,
condemned sin in the flesh: 4 That the righteousness of the law might
be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” (Rom 8:3-4)

    Hi Ed,

Indeed SIN IN THE FLESH is condemned.

They pleaded with Jesus not to send them to their fate early.

The Spirit sanctifies those born of it who submit to that transformation.

You do not need to be obsessed with stopping sinning but to seek the freedom the Son offers.

Some would accuse those that hunger and thirst for righteousness of being obsessed with righteousness but Jesus calls them blessed.

Romans 7:19-20Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. 20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

You are correct that the Son sets you free from the sin in the flesh that does what it should not do despite what your mind desire you do.

A believer overcomes sin by faith and not by human effort but sin is still overcome.

    i KW,

You still define righteousness as mere sinlessness?

    Scripture does not do so.

    Was Job a righteous man?

    Was sin found in him?

    Hi KW,

You would define the righteousness of God in such earthly terms?

Your god is not my god.
