Baptism in water may be a public declaration before men if they are present.

It is a plea to God for forgiveness so He is involved.

But as Acts 8 and the incident with the Magician Simon shows it is not just an ordinance as The Spirit in Peter identified the wrong motives of this man.

And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.

Heb 11.6

Unless we know God and His son and are known by them we have nothing to offer our fellow man.

Baptism in the name of Jesus Christ is simple obedience to God.

It is a plea to God for a clean conscience as 1 Peter 3 tells us.

Those who were baptised in the Spirit first in Acts 10 were immediately baptised in the name of Jesus Christ.
