My answer is:  A little off his rocker?  YES.  But brainwashed?  I don't think so.  You can tell from some of Ed's understandings that he walks to the beat of his own drum. I have never seen him “follow” anyone else here, or believe what they believe just because they believe it. And those would be clear signs of “brainwashing”, IMO.
