But even if it is communicating that from God another was begotten from his nature, then that would be true IMO.
So you can agree that the Son could properly be called the only begotten god/God whether or not it actually says it in John 1;18, right?

Hi Mike,
Regarding this post:
I thought I was agreeing with you. You’ve told me that John 1:1 speaks of two gods – one of whom was with the other. And you’ve told me that the Father is the unbegotten God who can’t be seen by human eyes, while Jesus is the only begotten god who can be seen by humans. Um… that’s two different gods, Kathi.…

Mike,
You said: that’s a great story about you liking design so much you are thinking about doing it professionally. Thanks, I have actually been doing design professionally to some degree for many years before I recently returned to college last fall. This time I am learning how to make use of computers for design. It’s a game changer ;).

Do you think that “my gospel” is consistent with one who believes that John 1:18 correctly calls Jesus the only begotten God?

Hi Mike,
Thanks for putting up those verses about the use of the plural Hebrew word for gods. I would suspect that there is another reason besides implying super greatness or a majestic plural but I don’t have time to run down that rabbit trail.
You said: I too believe Yahweh and Jesus are two different gods.
You are aware that I don’t believe…[Read more]

Berean,
You agree with this, right?
YHVH is both the Father and the Son, two persons. One God + one Lord, united in one Spirit.=YHVH.

Proclaimer,
Berean and I are saying the same thing with different words. You don’t seem to understand that. You react affirmatively towards Berean and the opposite towards me. We are essentially saying the same thing.
YHVH is both the Father and the Son, two persons. One God + one Lord, united in one Spirit.=YHVH.

YHVH is God of gods AND Lord of lords. For believers, the God of gods is one person and the Lord of lords is another. Two persons are represented by the one name “YHVH” and YHVH is echad (a term implying a unity).

Mikeboll64,
Mike, you said:
1 Kings 11:33… I will do this because they have forsaken me and worshiped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, Chemosh the god of the Moabites, and Molek the god of the Ammonites, and have not walked in obedience to me…
Notice here that Yahweh Himself refers to these other gods as “gods” – even using the plural wor…

Here lies the key:
You said: then the Father without the Son is not God
But since the Father is never without the Son, and visa versa, they are always together as YHVH God.
“But I am willing to bet that you do not really understand all this.”

Regarding this post of yours:
If one can merely partake of divine nature in a future sense and not in an original sense, they obviously would not be gods. Nothing can “become” God in nature since the concept of the divine God would be eternal in nature. No one that has not been eternally divine in nature would qualify to be god…

Regarding this post:
LU: You said this to PC: LU: I think John 1:1 teaches a Binary Godhead.

Did I word your belief incorrectly? If so, please correct me. As far as I know from your own words, you believe that YHWH is a combination of “YHWH the Father” and “YHWH the Son”… two members of the same Godhead. You…

Berean,
You said “In the beginning Jesus was God, and in due time HE WAS MADE FLESH, while retaining his divinity which he did not rely on in a self-centered way.
He lived by faith in his Father, as we should.”Agreed!

Proclaimer,
You admit that John 1:18 refers to Jesus as the only begotten theos in the NASB 1995 version. Is it even possible to you that you can understand John 1:1 like this:
In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God (the Father) and the Word was God (the only begotten God).
After all, John 1:18 is merely 17 verses later. Don’t…[Read more]

Hi Mike,
You agreed that Jesus is called the only begotten God/god in the NASB 1995 version. You use the example of Isaac being called the only begotten son of Abraham to show that one son can be called the only begotten son even though there are other sons that were fathered by Abraham. Let me ask you this: How many sons of the promise were…[Read more]

With a brief skim through your post, I don’t think you can prove that the Son emptied himself of his original nature. I would challenge that. I would say that while being in the form of God, he emptied himself in some undisclosed manner in order to come in the form of man. I don’t believe for one minute that one can empty themselves of their…[Read more]
