Ed,
Thank you for your advice about threads going astray.

Nick,
I take them all literally except for that last one.
That because the Spirit was not given until after Jesus ascended to heaven.
Their cleanliness was that of Abraham who was credited with righteousness because of his faith.

Nick,
God wants vessels that hunger and thirst to be free from serving sin.
That is why Jesus teaches us blessed are they they the hunger and thirst for righteousness for they will be filled.
Jesus did not lie when he stated that the Son will set a person truly free from serving sin. (John 8:36)
The context is John 8:31-36.

Ed,
He seems to be diverting me from the subject into another subject that is not in the context of this thread.
I assumed he was speaking figuratively in his statement.

Nick,
I am not disagreeing with Jesus.
If you understand he is saying “Those that are filled with their own righteousness are not called.’
He was the only one who had the Spirit at that time.
So in short “It is those do not have the Spirit but hunger and thirst for righteousness that are called” because they are the ones the desire to come…[Read more]

Nick,
Those already walk according to the Spirit do not need to receive the Spirit so why would they be called?
It is those do not have the Spirit but hunger and thirst for righteousness that are called.
Those that are filled with their own righteousness are not called.
kerwin replied to the topic The Ordinary Jesus Brigade in the forum Truth or Tradition 9 years, 10 months ago
Nick,
That is not what John said.
Instead he said those who do right are righteous.
Of course if one put’s on the Spirit they do right because doing right is the fruit of the Spirit.
Beware of those that preach another righteousness.
kerwin replied to the topic The Ordinary Jesus Brigade in the forum Truth or Tradition 9 years, 10 months ago
Nick,
Why do you think cleanliness is righteousness?
1 John 3:7Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
kerwin replied to the topic The Ordinary Jesus Brigade in the forum Truth or Tradition 9 years, 10 months ago
Nick,
Jesus was clean due to obedience to the law
Paul would have done then God claims through him that “touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.” (Philippians 3:6)
Galatians 3:21Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
21 Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could…

Nick,
The Law of Moses allowed for sin by the sacrifice of beasts. Paul stated his righteousness under Law was perfect and he was not lying. It is an imperfect righteousness. God knew the situation and made allowances.
kerwin replied to the topic The Ordinary Jesus Brigade in the forum Truth or Tradition 9 years, 10 months ago
Nick,
That disagree with the idea of the flesh. It is that idea why Jesus said no one is good.
If the Law can save anyone then there would be no need for the Spirit.
You already know that Scripture does not literally state that Jesus was made of the Spirit at the Jordon river but you choose to believe that for your own reasons.
Just as Paul…[Read more]

Nick,
Scripture does not say anything much of him before the Jordon beyond the fact that Jesus never sinned through tempted as is common is common to humanity.
That of course means he was tempted as we are and I see no reason to add the words “after the Spirit alighted on him”.
The question is whether you believe Jesus is a normal human being.…[Read more]

Gene,
I disagree with your libertarian idea of free will because it is essentially random will. It is a common idea of free will but it is also flawed and random will is not free. Many philosophers have come to the idea that free will can be predicted by anyone that knows the individual who is expressing it well enough. This being free must be…[Read more]

Ed,
Jesus was born “Christ” and therefore “the spirit” he was born with was “the Spirit of Christ”.
Sorry, I misread what you said.
You are not claiming Jesus is the Spirit of Christ but that he was born having previously received it.
That is not something disagree with since he would have to have it in order to walk according to it.
Of cou…[Read more]

Last I knew the Elites were attacking his conservative credentials. He is essentially what conservative Democrat. The Democrat party has become more progressive and so alienated their members. They still when elections so they have not had to tack to the center.

I know I answered it but that is why I chose to make it an “or” statement.
I worked as my wording as well so I would inadvertently be ingenuousness.
Communication can be difficult which may be why you worded your question vaguely.

EdJ,
If you want to believe that then do but the promised Messiah is a decedent of King David and the promised one is not a Spirit. When Jews speak of the the Messiah as the chosen King of God. David called King Saul the christ even though he himself was anointed the latter’s heir at that time. Basically Jews would understating Christ to means…[Read more]

Nick was nice to answer that question as I would not have since I would not have or would answer multiple times to cover multiple interpretations or perhaps found another solution. @t8,
He existed in the form of God and came in the flesh.
God has no outward form nor does he have a species because he is the creator not the created.
God made space and space even without mass-energy is this universe.
Those that truly believe God created the heavens and the earth believe by logical progression that he has no body.
Therefore…[Read more]
